LAE 4519 Ordeal by Cheque Lawrence Exeter is married to Marie Wharton Exeter, are soon to be parents. They are visiting Yoosie Yander Baby Shop, to buy a crib, decorations for the nursey, clothes, bottles, and bassinette for their baby on the way. On September 2nd, 1903 the couple rushed to the Hollywood Hospital and Dr. David McCoy delivered baby Lawrence Exeter Jr. The labor went great and the new family of three was on their way home a day after the birth. Months go on and baby Lawrence is growing fast. Christmas is right around the corner and Mr. Lawrence heads to the California Toyland Company to give the baby the best first Christmas ever. On Christmas morning baby Lawrence opened his gifts and had so much fun playing with is toys. Baby Lawrence grew up playing with his friends in the Hollywood Hills. When Lawrence Jr. was six he started school at Palisades School for Boys the most elite school in Southern California. Lawrence Jr. did amazing his first year at school and he was rewarded with a bicycle from his parents. In 1915, when he was 11 he graduated from Palisades School for Boys and in the fall continued his education at Columbia Military Academy. In 1921 he graduated from the Columbia Military Academy and his parents bought him a brand new Cadillac, which he wrecked four days later. In October of 1921, he moved away from home and he started college at Stanford University. Back at home in Hollywood, Lawrence Sr. has been having an affair with Miss Daisy Windsor. She has wanted him to get a divorce for years. He has been telling her that once Lawrence Jr. goes to college he will. Two years after Lawrence Jr. started college Daisy threatened to tell Mrs. Exeter about the affair. Lawrence Sr. promised to run away to France with her. He told her that she needed to go to France and find a place for them to live. He gave her

$25,000 and a plane ticket to France. She found a place and he send an addition $5,000 for the deposit and a few months of rent. Once he knew she had enough money and she was set, he cut all ties to Daisy. Lawrence Sr. never spoke to Daisy ever again. On February 13th, 1926 Lawrence Sr. bought his wife Marie flowers for Valentine’s day. In June, Lawrence Sr. bought flowers for his son Lawrence Jr. so he could propose to his girlfriend. In August, Lawrence Sr. bought his son a house in Riviera Heights. In October, Lawrence Sr. paid an interior designer to come decorate the new house. In November, Lawrence Sr. bought the ring sets for his son and his new wife for their wedding in December. Lawrence Sr. paid for his sons Hawaiian honeymoon cruise and hotel stay. Lawrence Sr. also gave the newly married couple a $200,000 nest egg. On December 1st, Lawrence Sr. paid for the flowers for the wedding. On February 18th 1927, Lawrence Jr. bought chocolate as a belated Valentine’s day gift. Lawrence Jr. bought his wife a gown for her birthday. He bought her lingerie for their anniversary in December. He also bought her another gown in April 1928, for Easter Sunday service. On November 1st, he went shopping for himself, he bought golf clubs and clothing at Moderne Sportte Shoppe. In July of 1929 he bought top of the line golf shoes from the Bootery. In August, Lawrence Jr. started getting good at golf and made a bet with his good pal Tony Spagoni which he lost. A week later he was determined to win, so they made another bet and he lost again. While play golf Lawrence Jr. met miss Flossie Wentworth at the country club. In May of 1930 bought her flowers and then jewelry. On November 13th 1930, he gave her $50,000 dollars to hide from his wife. The next day he got a divorce lawyer Wall and Smith attorneys at law. The lawyers decided that he had to give his wife $5,000 dollars.

On June 20th, 1931 the divorce was finalized. He also paid for his wives lawyer and the final payment to his lawyer. Lawrence Jr. gave his mother $175,000 to repay the nest egg that his parents gave him and also because he knew gambling was getting the best of him. He tried his luck with gambling again, against Tony once again, he lost again. On July 3rd, he branched out with his gambling addiction and lost to Peter Ventizzi, he wrote him a check for $25.00, when he actually owed him $125,000. Unfortunately, Lawrence Jr. didn’t know that Peter was a Mafia Kingpin. Peter told Lawrence Jr. that he had 48 hours to get him the rest of his money. On July 5th, the police notified Lawrence Sr. that they had found his son beaten and left for dead in an alley, he had been transported to Hollywood Hospital. On July 9th Lawrence Jr. succumbed to his injuries, he was being treated by the same doctor that delivered him 27 years ago. His funeral service was held at the Hollywood Mortuary....
