Summary

This is the personal statement that I have used to apply to the relevant games course....

Description

I am applying for my chosen course because I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Games at College for the past 3 years. I have enjoyed all of the modules that have been taught on the course over the years and would love to be able to continue studying and one day make it into the industry. This subject interests me because I have a passion for games. I like to play all sorts of game genres and i'm especially fascinated by how games can play with your emotions just through the narrative of the story which really inspires me. When actually playing games, I often find myself coming up with ideas of what could improve the game i'm playing or I will get inspired by the style of a game and come up with my own ideas for a game. I think that I am well suited for the course because over the past 3 years that I have studied Games my passion for Video Games has just been increasing. I enjoy learning new programs to work with and I like to test my skills in my spare time by doing my own side projects alongside college which helps me to further my skills and knowledge. I studied Games Design Level 2 and 3 at College which has hugely inspired me to continue studying video games in higher education. During these courses I studied; Digital Graphics, 2D and 3D Animation, Game Design, Story Development, Pre-production, Audio Production, Game Engines and a few other modules within the development and planning process of a video game. During my time at college, I got involved in an event to show off the games course to potential future students. During this event we had different tables set up for the different sections of the game course. We showed off Art, Modelling, Coding and game play. Also during my time at college, I attended the Bradford Animation Festival at the National Media Museum where I went along to a talk by Steve Lycett from Sumo (Executive Producer of the company) where he did a lecture on the production process of ‘Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed’. In my spare time when I'm not currently doing any college work, I like to do my own research into games. For example, I like to come up with my own ideas for what I think would make a great game one day. I also follow guides online which helps me to expand my knowledge with programs that I am unfamiliar with, Game Maker Studio being an example of one piece of software that I have dedicated a lot of time into learning. In a college event to promote the course, I had to take a leader responsibility which I am proud of doing. I had to plan and come up with ideas to promote the course in a way that members of the public would find interesting. The event went really well and I was able to present the course and give information to potential future students. After completing the course, I would like to take the knowledge and experience that I have gained into a career in the industry as it is a very interesting industry and it's one that I would like to be a part of....
