INTRODUCTION A. Attention Getting Device: (story/pathos) Most of the causes of the world’s most killing conditions are related to having poor eating habits. It is very sad hearing that someone is gone, because they decided to make poor eating choices. My question is what are the severe consequences of eating unhealthy?

B. With the bad food we put in our body without any nutrition are the main causes of serious illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, and stroke. (testimony) C. Credibility Statement: Although I don’t eat vegetables as much as I eat fruits, vegetables have good nutrients and are very good for your health. There was a time where I liked broccoli, and I knew it did wonders to my body. D. Relevance Statement: “Unhealthy diet led to 678,000 deaths each year in the U.S., due to nutrition-and-obesity-related diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. In the last 30 years, obesity rates have doubled in adults, tripled in children, and quadrupled in adolescents.” (statistics) The typical American diet is too high in calories, and doesn’t have enough fruits, vegetables, and fiber. (logos). E. Thesis Statement: Today I will explain why people should eat healthy. F. Preview Statement: First, I will illustrate the dangers of eating unhealthy. Then I will explain how eating healthy is beneficial. Finally, I will provide you with some tips on how to eat healthy. Transition: To start, I will explain the consequences of eating unhealthy food.

BODY (Problem-Case-Solution) A. There has been a huge increase in the amount of junk food people consume. 1. Thousands of people eat junk food, and don’t know what that can cause. a) “On any given day in the United States, an estimated 36.6 percent or approximately 84.8 million adults consume fast food.” said Cheryl Fryar, first author of the report (statistics) b) Fast food is focused in this report because food has an important role in the American diet in the recent decades. 2. Fast food consumption can vary from many reasons. a) “The data revealed that fast food consumption varied by age, income level, race and sex.” (testimony). b) The higher the income and younger the adults, the more they were to consume fast food.

Transition: Since we have a better understanding of the danger of eating unhealthy all the time, let’s identify how junk food can actually cause illnesses. B. There are reasons how unhealthy eating can lead to illnesses. 1. One, eating junk food could lead to obesity if it’s any everyday thing. a) Obesity increases the development of cancer cells in your body. b) A study in 2014 shows that fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants which protect cells from damage that leads to cancer. (testimony). 2. Two, it could lead to having heart disease due to sugar, sodium, and the fat in them. a) “Eating these unhealthy foods on a regular basis can increase your blood pressure as well as your cholesterol.” (ethos). b) Over time, high blood pressure can put a deal of stress on your heart. (testimony). Transition: We are aware of how eating unhealthy can cause certain illnesses, so let’s look at some ways we can prevent this through eating healthy. C. There are two things you should accomplish to have a healthy lifestyle. 1. Reduce eating processed sugary and salty foods. a) “More than 70% of the sodium Americans consume comes from processed and restaurant foods.” (testimony). b) Whenever eating out or in, eat less because reducing portion sizes can help limit how much salt you eat. c) At the grocery store, you could purchase whole, unprocessed foods such as fresh vegetables and meats. (example) 2. Increase protein in your diet and eat veggies before leaving the house.

a) The best sources of protein are easy to digest including whole eggs, chicken and turkey breast, and wild fish. (example). b) Doing this keeps you satiated, provides muscle building amino acids, and is shown to support your overall health. c) I would recommend taking one portion of protein and vegetables/fruit with every meal. (Visual/Example) Transition: In closing, I’d like to leave you with these parting thoughts. III.

CONCLUSION A. Restating the Thesis Statement: Today, I stressed the importance of eating healthy to avoid having life threatening illnesses. B. Review statement: I began by explaining how dangerous it is to only eat junk food. Then I went over some of the primary ways junk food causes illnesses such as obesity and heart disease. Last, I suggested some methods of how people can eat and stay healthy. C. Adequate closure: It’s not too late for us to start implementing better decisions for ourselves. Those who died have taught us valuable lessons that allow us to rethink our decisions everyday and make sure we keep a healthy lifestyle.
