Course Time/Location: Online – Blackboard TEXTBOOK: Fit & Well: Core Concepts & Labs in Physical Fitness & Wellness, Fahey, Insel, and Roth, 2017. ISBN: 978-1-25-940682-9 Note: Book is strongly recommended but not required. The text will greatly help with quizzes and as an adjunct to online PowerPoints. Students may use any “Fit & Well” textbook by Fahey, Insel, and Roth from the 7th edition and forward. If unsure, please contact the course instructor. Cheaper options of some of the earlier editions can usually be found easily online. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Any “Activity Tracker.” In general, any FitBit, Garmin, Jawbone, etc. The activity tracker needs to accurately record steps and physical activity. Using your phone to track steps is not sufficient for this course. **If your “Activity Tracker” malfunctions, YOU are responsible for contacting your instructor and the product manufacturer for support and troubleshooting immediately. An unreported malfunctioning “Tracker” is not an excuse for missing activity for this course.** COURSE DESCRPTION: This course is designed to introduce various techniques and activities to improve the students’ level of fitness and overall wellness. The goal of this course is to improve the students’ overall fitness, and to provide the student with the knowledge and experience to design and maintain a fitness and wellness exercise program throughout the lifespan. COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. Define health, wellness, and the physical fitness components. 2. Identify and practice the behaviors that constitute a fit and well lifestyle. 3. Enhance knowledge in organizing individual workout plans to improve each fitness component. 4. Understand the benefits that result from a life of fitness. 5. Promote lifelong fitness and wellness. COURSE POLICIES: Academic Integrity: Students at Purdue University are expected to be at all times in compliance with the Campus Code of Conduct. Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated in this course. Examples of scholastic dishonesty include giving or receiving aid during examinations, using any type of crib sheet, copying from or looking to another exam, or submitting another’s work as your own, etc. Students who engage in scholastic

dishonesty will be referred to the Dean of Students for appropriate disciplinary action and will receive no credit for academic work related to the incident of scholastic dishonesty. Classroom Behavior: This course will provide the unique opportunity to work on your online communication skills. Any discussion boards, online interactions, or conversations that may occur in classroom or group settings will often be viewed by everyone in the course or group. Please be respectful of one another, supportive in their efforts to engage in the course materials, and never harass, threaten or discriminate against others through our group communications. Students at Purdue University are expected to be at all times in compliance with the Campus Code of Conduct. Severe cases of inappropriate behavior will be referred to the Dean of Students for appropriate disciplinary action. Attendance/Participation: As this is an online course, attendance will not be applicable. However, participation in the materials of this course will be emphasized. Purdue University Policy; “All students are expected to be present for every meeting of the classes in which they are enrolled… Only the instructor can excuse the student from classes or course responsibility. In the event of an illness, accident, or emergency, when circumstances permit, the student should make direct contact with his/her instructor before a class or an exam takes place.”  All “personal” and/or “family emergency” type excuses (i.e. death/sickness in the family, extended sickness, etc.) will only be considered through the Dean of Students.
