PHI-105 Types of Communication Table In order to write a quality persuasive essay that incorporates critical thinking, you must include a mixture of informative, explanatory, and persuasive statements because to persuade someone you must: a) Inform them about the topic b) Explain your argument c) Persuade your audience to your point of view.

Directions: 1. Use the table below to do the following: a) Choose a concept and write an informative statement, an explanatory statement, and a persuasive statement for the concept in the appropriate boxes. An example has been completed for you in red. b) In part b of the table, select a concept from the draft of your persuasive essay and provide an example of one informative statement, one explanatory statement, and one persuasive statement based on the concept you chose. c) As discussed in the module lecture, language is intertwined with critical thinking. In part c of the table, in 200-250 words explain the relationship between informative, explanatory, and persuasive statements and critical thinking.

Baseball

Informative: (Just the facts) Baseball is a sport involving 9 players positioned in various places on a field, who are attempting to keep the other team from advancing bases.

Explanatory: (Description of the facts) There are many ways to score runs in baseball. The most efficient way is for your team to get a series of base hits eventually bringing runners home. In order to do this, players must have good hitting ability, running ability, and judgment.

Persuasive: (Position on the facts) Quality pitchers are more important than power hitters, because keeping runs off the board could give the pitcher’s team more opportunity to win. Teams that have better pitchers almost always end up being the better team.

Part A: Concept of your Choice

Tennis

A racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent or between two teams of two each. Players. The usual form is played is played with a felt-covered hollow ball on a grass, clay, or artificial surface.

A game in which two to four players strike a ball with rackets over a net stretched across a court. Each. player is trying to score 4 points to win a game and six game to win a set. Two to three sets win the match. A volley between players until a miss, out of bounds, or your shot bounces.

Some of the best players are able to serve aces not allowing opponent to score during serving game. If a player is a strong server, the opponent doesn’t have a chance to return the serve preventing volleys. This turns the game into a one-sided match.

Part B: Concept selected from your persuasive essay

Self-driving cars

Self-driving cars also known as autonomous vehicle. Self-driving cars is a vehicle that can sense its little or no environment and moving safely with little to no human input.

Reduction of traffic

Self-driving cars will reduce traffic and human error caused accidents. Being able to commute faster due to less congestion. Self-driving cars will utilize buffer distances and less braking allowing reduced traffic.

Part C: In 200-250 words explain the relationship between informative,

Informative tells something specifically about the topic, Explanatory explains how or why something happens. Persuasive is when someone is trying to persuade to buy or do something. Critical thinking is the use of cognitive skills or strategies to increase the chance of the desired outcome. The direct relationship between informative, persuasive, and explanatory is the use of critical thinking to

explanatory, and persuasive statements and critical thinking

accept/decline the information. Being able to use deductive reasoning to agree or disagree with the topic is critical in life. You were unable to perform critical thinking you would be constantly manipulated or deceived easily. Being able to tell information is beneficial in getting your point of view to others. Then showing the ability to express why and how things happen forms your message to others. Furthermore, persuading others to buy into your message is important to be a leader. People have to believe in your message and your responsible in selling it to them. Being able to execute all these will exhibit the ability to use critical thinking to inform, explain, and persuade to achieve goals....
