Nicole ENC 1102 Mr. Riobueno 10/10/16 “Poetry Should Ride the Bus” by Ruth Forman The poem “Poetry Should Ride the Bus” express how poetry should be and act. It is a playful poem with great imagery, the words chosen to tell the story are very detailed. An example of this imagery is this line in the poem that says “poetry should wear bright red lipstick n practice kisses in the mirror…” I think Ruth tried to show that poetry does not have to be boring, strict, or rhyme when being written, but it can have an element of fun and still get the message of the poem across to the audience reading it. Also the story the poem tells is one of a little girl playing on the streets of a poor neighborhood, then becoming a teenager and starting to wear makeup and getting interested in boys. Then growing up and becoming a woman that left her poor neighborhood and got an education but has to remember where she came from and still be able to spend time with her family. Then getting older and making chicken wings for the family and looking though the whole photo album of grandchildren. Then the poem starts to say that poetry should give you hope and touch your soul....
