Part II: Complete the following question and summaries. 1. Summarize the 5 departments you selected in a minimum of 90 words. The five departments that I chose where the Department of Health and Human Services which is in charge of social services and public health. The Department of Education which provides support to the teachers and professionals that work with children and also are in charge financial aid for higher education. The Department of Labor is responsible for occupational safety, wage and hour standards and work-related benefits. Next is the Department of Veteran Affairs this department is responsible for the health care and benefits for all those that have served in any of our armed forces. Finally, the Department of Transportation which regulates all forms of transportation laws including air, train and highway.

2. How do the 5 departments and their polices affect you personally, professionally, or both? The five departments that I have selected affect me in one-way shape or form. The Department of Labor and Department of Transportation affects us all as American citizens working and traveling within the U.S. I previously worked for an airline, so the FAA and all policies affected me and customers daily. My boyfriend is a teacher and combined we have 7 children between the ages of 5 yr and 21yr all in school. the Department of Education is very crucial as me and two of the children count on this department for our financial aid for school.

3. Summarize how the policies affect you in a minimum of 90 words.

The Policy implanted by the Department of Health and services that affects me on a daily basis is HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996). HIPAA was implemented to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent. Each year I have to complete HIPAA training as a Pharmacy Service Rep. I am subjected to patient’s private information from contact information to medical records. I am responsible for keeping all their information private and only using it as needed to complete my tasks. Each and every call I must ask the caller or patient to HIPAA verify by providing private information to verify their identity.
