Hypothalamus & pituitary practice quiz

which are located in posterior pituitary.

distant end of cell in posterior pituitary.

Feedback loops in the hypothalamic-anterior pituitary pathways are complex endocrine reexes with 3 integrating centres. Long-loop negative feedback is the dominant form of negative feedback in the hypothalamic-anterior pituitary pathway where the hormone secreted by the peripheral endocrine gland suppresses secretion of its anterior pituitary and hypothalamic hormones Short-loop negative feedback in the hypothalamic-anterior pituitary pathway occurs when an anterior pituitary hormone feeds back to decrease hormone secretion by the hypothalamus.

All anterior pituitary hormones are controlled by both a releasing and inhibiting hormone. The responses in the hypothalamic-anterior pituitary pathways act as negativefeedback and remove the initial stimulus. Specic hypothalamic neuron cell bodies synthesize growth hormone and ACTH; these hormones are then transported down to the axon terminals which are located in the anterior pituitary. Antidiuretic hormone is released from the anterior pituitary when a stimulus reaches the hypothalamus and anelectric signal travels from the neuron cell body in the hypothalamus to the distant end of the cell in the anterior pituitary.

Match the following hormones with the gland that secretes them.
