Specic hypothalamic neuron cell bodies synthesize growth hormone and ACTH; these hormones are then transported down to the axon terminals which are located in the anterior pituitary. Antidiuretic hormone is released from the anterior pituitary when a stimulus reaches the hypothalamus and anelectric signal travels from the neuron cell body in the hypothalamus to the distant end of the cell in the anterior pituitary.
