Description

I picked prayer as my gospel principle because I have struggle with it since middle school and ended up blowing it off in high-school, which was a big mistake. I know now that if I continually prayed and read my scriptures that life would have been a lot easier and my testimony would be a lot stronger then it is now. I am the type of person that has to work on one thing at a time in order to get any thing down. I want to be able to become sincere and heart felt in my morning and nightly prayers. I also want to be able to implement gratitude and the proper wording usage in my prayers so I can respect my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. When I started to ponder about praying, I asked my instructor for some advice and help in the area of prayer. He gave me two talks by Elder Bednar, and the excerpt about prayer in the Bible Dictionary. These helped me so much and showed me that I needed to express more gratitude in my daily prayers. One of my favorite scriptures in the bible dictionary about prayer is “god be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:11,13). Another scripture that stood out to me was from Matthew 6:5, Mark 1:35, Luke 21:36, and last but not least 1 Thessalonians 5:17,25. These scriptures showed me the importance of prayer as well as the necessity of prayer in our life. I planned out realistic steps to help me achieve this goal of mine. I started setting aside time for my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ with my prayers and scripture study. Then, I started to ponder about what I wanted to say before my nightly prayers, so I can be as sincere as I want to be instead of repeating nonsense phrases. At this point in time, I am working on trying to recognize the feeling of the holy ghost and adding in morning prayers before I go to my classes for the day. When I successfully implement sincere morning and night prayers as a part of my life. I want to respect my Heavenly Father by practicing proper usage of “thee”, “thou”, and “thine” and implement them into my daily prayers. I promise to learn from this experience and keep this gospel principle in my life. I will work hard to strengthen my weaknesses and use my strengthens to never give up, working on gospel principles that I need help with. I want to review these gospel principles throughout my life to help me keep my promises, my testimony, and other gospel principles in my life. As I do my part, I know that Heavenly Father will be by my side every step of the way. Prayers make a profound impact on our lives, and the lives of those around us. Prayer holds power, nurture and love. That is something I will always want in my life as a daughter on god....
