Estella Mitchell PSY 376 Module 8 Love Quote Analysis 1. “Loving is not just looking at each other, it’s looking in the same direction” -Antoine de Sanit-Exupery a. This quote is an example of the travel story and looking at how someone can view love as a journey and the essential aspect of it, is looking and deciding on a destination. The travel story had three major components/ questions both people in the relationship must agree on for the story to be successful. The first was deciding on the destination, the second was deciding the speed of the journey and the third was deciding the stops along the way. 2. “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies” -Aristotle a. This quote is a good demonstration of how in a love relationship, the identities of two partners can become intricately intertwined. When individuals are in a close relationship they demonstrate cognitive independence and these deeply interdependent relationships hold that the sense your partner understands, validates, and cares for you is central. 3. “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same” -Emily Brontë a. This is an example of passionate love and the emotional intensity this love style can possess. The powerful emotional state that is passionate love is associated with a feeling of ecstasy and a sense of fulfillment when the love is reciprocated. The quote is also an example of how this passionate love can lead to the identities of individuals in a love relationship becoming elaborated entangled. 4. “You always gain by giving love” -Reese Witherspoon a. This quote is a good example of the agape love style and how it is a giving and sacrificial type of love. By giving love to others you, in turn, gain satisfaction and compassion. I do think it takes time and practice to be able to express love to yourself. I think this is a good practice and an essential component to being in a healthy loving relationship is to be able to give love to yourself and others. 5. “True love stories never have endings” -Richard Bach a. I liked this quote because it made me think of my grandfather and grandmother. A year ago, my grandmother died unexpectedly after my grandfather, and she had celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. My grandfather even wrote a novel about their love story. He had a hard time after she died and still writes to her each morning. If he sees a cardinal on his morning walk, he knows it's her checking in. The quote reminded me that even if someone dies, the love they had for you does not die and the love you had for them does not leave either. Love does not have an ending....
