Research Study: Workplace Wellness Programs Can Generate Savings 1. Summarize the research study’s purpose. Your response should be about 25 to 50 words. This study's purpose is to show how companies that offer wellness programs can effectively save money because their employers are healthier, thus missing less work days. 2. Describe the relevance of the publication dates of the citations referenced for the research study. Your response should be about 25 to 50 words. Consider the following:  Are some of those cited sources recent (relevant to date of publication)? Most of the publication dates of the citations for this research study are not up to date. They mainly range between 2004 and 2006. 3. Identify the type of claim the research study makes. Explain your response. Your response should be about 25 to 50 words. Consider the following:  Is the claim frequency based, association based, or causal? The type of claim this study makes is causal because it explains a sort of cause and effect theme. For example, if the cause is more companies offering wellness programs, the effect could be healthier employees and less missed work days. 4. Describe the research method used in the research study. Your response should be about 25 to 50 words. Consider the following:  Is the research method qualitative, quantitative, or mixed? The research method seems to be quantitative beings that it mainly goes off of percentages of employers and employees within the study. 5. Describe the research study’s data collection method. The data collection method for this research study was mainly surveys and observations. The researchers had to perform surveys in order to get their data with percentages and observation was used by researching how many companies offered wellness programs. 6. Describe the research study’s sample. Your response should be about 50 words. Include the following in your response:  Sample size  Sample characteristics The sample described more than 90 percent of employee wellness programs were implemented in large firms (those with more than 1,000 workers). 7. Describe one type of statistical analysis conducted in the research study. Your response should be about 25 words. One type of statistical analysis they used explained several well publicized case studies that have suggested a positive return to employers' investments in prevention. For every dollar invested in the program, the employer saves more than the dollar spent. 8. Describe one limitation from the research study. Your response should be about 25 to 50 words. One limitation from the research study included lack of participant employers/companies. 9. Describe how this research study could be used in personal and professional practice. Your response should be about 25 to 50 words. Consider the following:  How can the findings from this study be used by people in their work, in their personal lives, or to help others? This research study could be used in personal practice by helping one understand the importance of wellness, and the relation between that and saving money. The research study could also be used in professional practices by improving moral at work and increasing the employees enthusiasm and willingness and drive to create an overall better work environment.
