Module 04 Overview - Introduction and Overview of Psychological Research Methods Psychology is the science of behavior and mental processes. As a science, research is a fundamental building block of psychology. In order to better understand behavior and mental processes in humans and nonhuman animals, psychologists employ a wide range of research designs and methods. Psychological research spans the entire range of experimental and nonexperimental approaches, each of which provide different, but complementary and equally important types of knowledge which help the discipline to grow and progress. In this module, you will review the basics of the scientific method, explore the theory-data cycle that is the backbone of science and research, and explore non-scientific a range of experimental and nonexperimental research methodologies employed by psychologists.
