Instructional Strategy and Description A strategy the teacher can use is to “pause, ask questions, pause, & review” why this can be beneficial because this can be a “way to check for understanding while students read a chunk of difficult text or learn a new concept or content. Here’s how this strategy works: Share a new idea from discussion or the reading, then pause (providing think time), and then ask a strategic question, pausing again” (Alber, 2014). A strategy for writing, the students can draw pictures and use the dictionary. With pre-emergent phase, with having the students draw or use different forms of images about what they read, the students can verbally explain their drawings. With the use of drawings, students can make connections and make it easier for them to understand. By also using a dictionary, students could correct themselves if they spelled something wrong or used a word in the wrong place. A strategy to use with grammar is using songs. Using technology can be very beneficial for teachers. With the use of YouTube, the students could listen to songs that focuses on grammar. There is a sing a long songs like schoolhouse rock and or grammaropolis are good programs that focus on punctuation and conjunctions.

Instructional Strategy and Description With reading, students will focus on the vocabulary and key content. It will be the job of the teacher to choose the most important key vocabulary that the students need to know from their reading. This will help them in supporting their reading development as they go through their education. A strategy to help in writing is to have pre-writing and fill in the charts. This can be a very beneficial strategy because it can help correct a student’s writing by having the student generate their ideas prior to doing the exercise. What this would include is grammar and vocabulary, especially since these two topics are a big necessity for writing. By having the students use fill in the charts, it will help the students locate and create topic sentences, and it will the students make statements and words. © 2018. Grand Canyon University. A strategy to help in grammar is to use act out the grammar or use visuals. By having the students use visuals, it can assist them to act out their grammar skills. By having the students use visuals, it can assist them to enhance the students understand of the different types of grammar. This can assist them in memorizing new grammar and vocabulary.

Instructional Strategy and Description A couple strategies the teacher can use is to have students summarize their reading content and for basic readers have them use echo reading. With the help of the teacher, they will summarize the materials that they need to read so everyone has some understanding of what they are reading. With the use of echo reading, this is a strategy in which the teacher will point to a phrase or word where they are reading, and the student will copy (echo) what the teacher just did. A strategy that could be done in writing is creating a word bank in which the students can use throughout their writing. By being in groups, the students can put together a word bank with the information that was taught to them. To help them even more, the teacher can encourage them to use a notebook to save and use the words in the word bank at a different time. The students could also use “appropriate transitions, words, and phrases to connect claims” (Scholastic, 2020). With grammar, a strategy that can be used is rephrasing and modeling. These strategies can be done with the whole class or in smaller groups. When doing it with the whole class, the teacher can show them the correct wats to use the grammar skills. When they are in stations, the students can use their peers in order to get support and learn grammar by helping each other out.

Instructional Strategy and Description A strategy that can used is have students to ask questions that will help steer them to help them use higher level thinking skills. It is important that the teacher ensures higher-level thinking skills with students when they are reading any of the materials. To help engage the students is asking them to predict what could happen and if they disagree or agree. I believe this help the students go deeper in the reading. A strategy a teacher can use her is to use sentence combining and graphic organizers. At the start of the lesson, the teacher will hand each student an empty graphic organizer or a writing template that is blank. By doing this, it can help their writing be organized. To assist many of the students, the teacher can do an example of how to fill in the blanks in the correct way. This can be very beneficial in order to © 2018. Grand Canyon University. make sure that it is done correctly by the students. A strategy that can be used at this level with grammar is having the students use short stories. For ELL students, by having them use short stories, it can help them with providing a variety of helpfulness of learning grammar. Something that I learned is spoken language is easier than learning the different types of grammar, especially since the English language has so many rules. By having them use short stories, it can give students an understanding of real-world language. With short stories, the teacher can use many different cultural stores and it can be used throughout the class.

Instructional Strategy and Description A strategy that can use for reading with high intermediate students is having them use informal comprehension reading checks. I think that ELL students should use this strategy at every level but more so with high intermediate because when you are reading, it is important to know what parts of reading they are good at and what parts they need to improve on. with having the checks, students will get the correct feedback to move on and know what they need to correct. Later, the teacher can write down sentences and the students can practice those for when they go back to reading the whole text. When it comes to writing, using peer editing and preliminary research can be very beneficial. By looking up information prior to starting to write the paper can be very beneficial. By doing this, students can reference to include in their writing and have an idea of what their paper might look like. After finishing writing, it is always important to peer edit what they had written with their fellow classmates. By doing this, it gives the students the opportunity to put into place what they have learn and by helping their classmates. What high intermediate students can use as a strategy here is create and use a competitive quiz. To help students, the teachers can use competitive quizzes or different types of games that can get their minds moving. It also gets them to participate and be engaged in what they have been taught. A good online quiz game that can be used to teach grammar is Kahoot.
