Dare to Dream Reflection Due to efforts of remarkable women athletes in history, many women have the opportunity to participate in various sports. The sacrifice of the United National Women’s Soccer was credited for their success in providing a voice for women of all ages. The film Dare to Dream showed various film techniques to capture the audience and deliver a message of “anything is possible only if we dare to dream it.” The three main techniques that connected to the scenes were crane shot, flashback, and close-up. There was plethora of examples of crane shot in the film. This technique was utilized when the team was in the field. The crane shot emphasized the effort that the team had. The technique showed the team in matches with their opponent. As the ball goes back and forth between the US National Team and their opponent, we can see the drive that theses women had. One scene that stood out is when Michelle Akers was suffering from Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. She nearly passed out on the field. However, she was able to get back up and continue playing. The crane shot highlighted that thru diligence and perseverance nothing is impossible. It is obvious that there were many flashbacks in the film. While the veteran players were interviewed, the film makers took us back to specific moments. A memorable segment was when they were invited to FIFA Women's World Cup in China in 1991. The filmmakers brought us back to all the preparations for the World Cup. There were clips that showed the training that they had to go through. To get to China, these athletes sacrificed their time and even used their own resources. They were on long, uncomfortable, and exhausting flights to head to China. They even showed photos capturing the cheap motels that they had to stay in. The flashback also allowed us to peak into the athletes lives. The film makers showed clips from Joy Fawcett’s life. Although, she has her own family she still devoted

herself to the team. Thanks to this technique the fans were able to grasp the concept that the Women’s National Team made a way to represent our country. Last but not the least, the film maker used close-up. Close ups helped determined the vital parts of the movie. The camera focused on the goals that the team made. Briana Scurry was captured midair to block the opponent’s goal. There was also a segment when Briana Scurry and Kristine Lilly was captured blocking a goal from China. There was a close-up on Mia Hamm when she stressed that the players were more than her teammates. She cited that the team was with her in difficult times. She lost her brother and was unable to participate in one of the match. However, the team sported a black arm band to honor Mia’s brother. She was touched, and it gave her the motivation to continue representing the United States with her team. Mia also stated, “They are incredible teammates, but I am more proud to call them my friends.” The close-up techniques allowed the film makers to highlight important moments that made the team unstoppable. This was a phenomenal film that fully examined the rise of women’s soccer in America. The film makers used various techniques to tell the story of these amazing women. The crane shot implied that due to the team’s diligence and perseverance they were able to achieve victory. The flashback showcased the efforts of Women’s National Team to represent our country. The close-up techniques highlighted what made this team incredible. The film exhibited all the hard work that made the team one of the world’s greatest dynasties....
