Reflection Paper John Q The film starts with a tragic accident, this is somewhat a foreshadowing but an unexpected one, it caught me of guard. In the film we see John a good family man, a loving father, and a caring husband. His family did not have much, but they were happy. But all of that changed due to the unfair treatment they got through the hospital bill they had to pay. His son needed a surgery, a transplant. But it cost so much that they could not afford. John and his family are very poor, and you see how hard it is for him to pay that large amount of money. So, the hospital decided to kick them out and just let the boy die. But out desperateness and of course, unwilling to let the child die. With no options left John decided to do what he can for his child to live. He takes the hospital specifically the ER room in captivity. With a pistol he takes some hostages and demands that his child get the proper treatment for him to live. In the movie my paradigm shifted. As I saw for the first time, the reality of stereotypes of what we think a criminal is. He is not a bad person, nor does he do it out of greed. I felt a deep compassion towards the father in the end. He is willing to take his own integrity or even his own life for his son. An act of an antagonist turns protagonist. This movie is relatable at some point of my life. Because when a friend of mine got sick the insurance, even the hospital did not even contribute a single money to pay their dept. At that time, they had nothing. The nurses and reporters where the one’s willing to help to afford the medicine for their treatment. I support this because my father worked as a nurse and now a reporter. As we watched the film together, my father told me the situation inside the hospital for people who don’t have money. Terrible things happening inside. My father told me, there was once a pregnant woman that is giving birth. At first, she tried it in her home, but her situation was critical, so they had to take her to the hospital. But she could not pay the hospital bill because they were just poor. So, after the operation. Out of desperateness what they did was they had to hide their child inside a bag and sneaked their way out the hospital. Can u believe what they had to go through? How sad it is that our government and public hospitals did not even give an exception for them. In Canada where my brother lives right now, his wife just gave birth. And they paid nothing. The government also provided them some food and other formulas. The government supports people not drain them out of their last penny. Hospital should try and provide some exceptions for people who don’t not have much. By far this is one of the best movies to open the hearts of people. There are a lot of social messages and judgments for the corruption of medical facilities. My reflection of this movie is that don’t judge the person because of what they did. Look at their circumstances before thinking why they had to do it. And see your reality or perception change....
