The expansion and diversification that the tourism sector has undergone in recent decades has turned it into a major global socioeconomic driving force that contributes to generation of employment, the breakeven in the balance of payments, an increase in public income and the promotion of business activity (Sancho, 1998; Peña, 2004). Business and MICE tourism is consolidated as one of the key segments in the tourism industry, given that it has become increasingly popular among tourism managers and administrators as a means of securing customer loyalty, boosting brand image (GarcíaViana, 2013), as well as contributing to the diversification of the tourist product (Peña, 2004) and deseasonalising demand (García-Viana, 2013; Peña, 2004). The aim of this Final Degree Project is to analyse the current situation of business and MICE tourism in the city of Vigo. The methodology employed is qualitative, since the fieldwork is based on in-depth interviews and on the analysis of primary and secondary sources. Business and MICE tourism in Vigo has evolved positively thanks to exponential growth in the number of events held over the past three years. Furthermore, despite the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, this trend would continue in 2020, because large events were scheduled to take place in the city.
