Alterations in Health (Diagnosis)
Pathophysiology Related to Client Problem Schizophrenia occurs when multiple inherited gene abnormalities combine with nongenetic factors. These factors include viral infections, birth injuries, evironmental stressors, prenatal malnutrition, and abnormal neural pruning that alters brain development or function and/or injure the brain directly

Nursing Care -Ensure that patient has had a medical workup -Assess for substance or alcohol use disorders -Assess for hallucinations -Establish a trusting relationship -Validate pateint's feelings and help patient recognize positive traits and accomplishments
Medications -haloperidol -chlorpromazine
Client Education -Know early warning signs of relapse (i.e. sleep disturbances, troubling thoughts, difficulty thinking/remembering) -Let treatment team know right away if one is experiencing these symptoms. -Develop a relapse prevention plan not using drugs or alcohol, taking medications, and managing stress.
