Description

Identify the developments and how they impact individuals or larger groups/cultures. Modules Five and Six covered plenty of important developments, such as, discoveries and changes in the way we think. These developments assisted in changing society’s understanding of the world and the aspect various factors play in determining human behavior and why society operates the way it does. I believe that some of the most significant developments occurred during the 1860’s-1950’s which changed the thinking of individuals on a big scale. During this period, the social reform begins,” ...addressing issues such as immigrants’ rights, civil rights, and women’s rights” (Southern New Hampshire University, n.d.). The addition of these rights moved society to change and form new opinions of themselves, others, and how society functions. During this period there was also a considerable amount of growth in the field of psychology that also aided in the formation of new knowledge, discoveries, and technological/research advances. This was not limited to the opening of the first psychology labs and clinics. The first doctorate/academic title given and the development of IQ tests. When these labs opened and with the development of knowledge/human behavior and mind testing, it allows scientists to form and answer questions in the furthering of the field. All these adjustments help in building and pushing individuals, society, and cultures to the future through different perspectives and learned knowledge. Describe how the developments changed society’s understanding. How is the development applicable outside of the social sciences? The developments that I have shared above would have changed society’s understanding in many ways. For example, society would be given a new open-minded perspective to look at. With the formation of women’s rights, immigrants’ rights, and the laws changing, society would have to

accept these changes and comply. Society would start forming questions about the way society runs, what is fair and what is not fair, and how society can learn from these changes. Getting to the technological side of the developments, society’s knowledge would have greatly increased. Individuals were able to be studied more thoroughly, therefore providing an enormous amount of knowledge not known before. Social scientists would have been able to collect more data, obtain more accurate information, and be able to advance the areas in focus. Looking outside of social science, these developments would have impacted almost every part of the world. The passing of the rights would have changed political, societal, personal, and professional relationships due to the big change in more individuals gaining more rights. Technology created new ways for individuals to communicate and society to run. Besides social science, technology increases would have allowed for advancements in other fields, new opportunities, and new improvements for individuals relating to a multiple number of aspects, which include, physical health, mental health, and illnesses.

These developments got us to where we are today, in our pockets we house a device that

can do just about anything, our cellphones are also minicomputers and can now also access the internet. Outside of social science, these developments enhance our everyday life. We use our phones for everything from alarm clocks and timers to a pocket sized calendar.
