"Secularism" and the connection between education and secularism

Introduction : Secularism's Meaning: Secularism is an important feature of Indian society. India has a democratic, secular social structure. George Jaques coined the term secularism in the nineteenth century. This word comes from the Latin word saecularis, which means "related to a time or period" (Compact Oxford Dictionary Thesaurus & Word power Guide).

"If something is secular, it has nothing to do with religion or spiritual things" (Oxford Essential English-English Hindi Dictionary). Secularism is defined as "the notion that religion should not be involved in public affairs." Society's structure, education, and so forth." The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary) "Secularism" is defined as "the notion that morality should be founded purely on the well-being of people in this

life, to the exclusion of all considerations derived from religious belief." (From the Oxford Dictionary.) "A system of theory and practises that is secular," according to Webster. rejects all religious belief and worship. "Secularism signifies not religious narrowness but religious broadness," says Pt. J.L. Nehru. "All that a secular state signifies in the opinion of Parliament is that this ment shall not be competent to push any specific religion upon the rest of the people," says Dr. Ambedkar. As a result, secularism entails not opposing any faith. ensuring that all religions are treated equally. India has embraced the concept of secularism. As a result, India has no official religion. All religions are on an equal footing. Everyone is free to do anything they choose. He must confess and propagate his faith. He can't, however, push his religion on others. This is a violation of the law. It is possible to nurture a liberal attitude of secularism in this way. Dr. Ambedkar clearly said in his concept of secularism that the Parliament has no authority to impose any specific religion on the people through legislation. The state can be one of two types in terms of religion.

1. State of non-secularity 2. State of Secularism People in a non-secular state are not free to practise any faith. There is only one official religion. The secular state, on the other hand, does not have a State Religion. People are allowed to practise any religion they want. "Secularism signifies not religious narrowness but religious broadness," says Pt. J.L. Nehru. Religious narrowness entails granting special benefits to those who follow a specific religion while dismissing others who do not. Religious pluralism, on the other hand, implies equal regard for all religions. This religious broad vision, according to Pt. Nehru, is secularism. A person with this mindset believes in the existence of human religion. Donald E. Smith claims that A secular state guarantees religious freedom to all citizens. It considers everyone, regardless of religion, to be a citizen. It has nothing to do with religion in terms of the constitution. It does not accept or reject any religion. Religious be given to any organisation that runs entirely on government funding, according to Article 28 of the Constitution. However, educational institutions that are under the jurisdiction of the government are not allowed to be outposts of the government; instead, they must be built under the supervision

of some institutes that can provide religious education according to the demands. If a student is enrolled in a prestigious and financially supported institution, he cannot be forced to take religious education." Secularism entails not opposing any religion and allowing religions equal access to all chances. The state cannot discriminate against anyone based on their religious beliefs. As a living role model, the teacher can instil a secular viewpoint in his students. Religion should be taught to the pupils as a tool of human service, not as a means of severing human togetherness. The Nation is weakened by religious strife and violence. The violence in Kashmir is a slap in the face to secularism. Education can help to eliminate this evil. Education can become a necessary component of our lives. A democratic, secular, and socialist society can only be built after that.

Secularism and Indian Society:

India is a multi-faith nation. It is impossible to achieve national growth unless all citizens are given equal chances. Since we chose a democratic society, it was

thought that democracy could not succeed without socialism and secularism. The Democratic Republic of India has two new words: socialist and secular, thanks to the 42nd Constitutional Amendment. As a result, India was declared a secular state. Citizens were given the right to equality and religious freedom while keeping the country's secular character in mind. Articles 24-28 of the Constitution build on the concept of religious freedom, allowing us to comprehend the ideal of secularism. The Constitution expresses this clearly. 1. The State will not support any one religion. 2 Every citizen has the right to practise and promote his or her own faith. 3. Religious instruction will not be permitted in government-sponsored or formed educational institutions. 4. Minorities have the right to create educational institutions based on their own language or faith. 5.Equal chances, without discrimination, are guaranteed to all residents. India is no stranger to the concept of secularism. Since ancient times, India has believed in secularism. The Indian culture promotes tolerance and worldwide brotherhood. It's always had a humanistic perspective. Only a secular country can believe in

such virtues. As a result, we have reasserted our confidence in secularism by adopting it....
