The capacity rate of the hospital is 200 operations per week(Appendix A). The throughput rate is 150 operations per week (Appendix A). The average bed utilization is 71.43% per week (Appendix B). There are 60 patients in the hospital on Monday and Friday, 90 patients on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 30 patients on Saturday and Sunday (Appendix B).

The average bed utilization is 85.71% per week (Appendix B).. There are 60 patients in the hospital on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and 90 patients every day from Monday to Thursday (Appendix B).

Q2:

Q3: Currently, Shouldice hospital operates at a utilization rate of 75% by taking 150 patients per week. In order to increase its throughput rate by 20%, the hospital needs to conduct 180 operations per day and on average 36 operations per week. Since the hospital needs to keep the Shouldice Practice, it should increase the input rate from 150 patients per week to 180 patients per week. The hospital will accept 36 patients on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. At the same time, in order to accommodate extra patients, the hospital will need to add 18 more beds (Appendix D). After the change, each doctor will conduct 3 surgeries per day. The utilization rate of the operations will increase from 75% to 90% (Appendix C). The inventory build-up is shown in the following diagram.
