Risk Factors

Expected Findings

Female 20-40yrs old, Race (Asian, hispanic, Native American, African american), Can Mimics other disorders, Lupus decreases in females after menopause but steady in males, Lupus can be caused from a combo of enviromental and genetic factors.

Laboratory Tests

Fatigue/malaise, alopecia, blurred vision, pleuritic pain, anorexia/weightloss, depression, joint pain/swelling/tenderness, weakness. sjogrens syndrome

Diagnostic Procedures

ANA's /SLE Prep(dsDNA, ssDNA, Anti-DNP) Serum complement, (C3,C4), ESR

Skin biopsy, Immunologic tests, Erythematous rash (Butterfly rash), Raynauds syndrome.

PATIENT-CENTERED CARE

Nursing Care Assess and monitor: pain, mobility, fatige, vitals (especially BP), systemic malfunctions,skin integrity dimished breath sounds, hr (tachycardia), for chest pain, skin pallor/cyanosis, etc. Monitor Diet and offer emotional support. standard precautions. client education regarding meds and diet, Monitor labs. neurological assessments, mental status questions, daily management tips.

Therapeutic Procedures Medicatios, Diet, Support groups, Safety precautions. Periodic health screenings.

ACTIVE LEARNING TEMPLATES

Avoid prolonged Sun exposure-Wear sunscreen, wear wide brimmed hats, limit salt intake, monitor for edema, monitor BP, BG levels. Avoid crowds. do not abruptly stop taking meds.

Complications Medications NSAIDS, Corticosteriods (Prednisone), Immunosuppres sents (Methotrexate, Belimumab), Anti-malarial (Hydrochoroqui ne)

Client Education Avoid stress, take meds as prescibed, do not abruptly stop steroids make sure to taper down, Avoid prolonged UV rays, lotion to dry skin, avoid vaccines for 30 days prior to immuno suppressent drugs, avoid harsh hair treatments

Interprofessional Care

Chronic kidney diseases, kidney transplant, Lupus nephritis (leading cause of death for SLE), Pericarditis/myocar ditis. Oral ulcers, skin lesions. scleroderma

physical and occupational therapy services can be used for strengthening exercises and adaptive devices. Support groups.
