REQUIRED TEXT- Yes, buy the book and wherever it is cheapest. You will find the eBook version most helpful, especially when taking exams. I do not recommend other editions. GRADING: There are 8 grades in this class (5 exams and 3 projects). The lowest of the 8 grades will be dropped which includes the final. The remaining 7 grades will be added THEN divided by 7. That number is your grade. It’s that simple! The following scale will be used to calculate your grade. Please note: This grading scale is provided by UH and I do not adjust it in any way. An A is the highest grade available at UH. There is no curve on the grading scale and no points “given” for any reason. For an A, you must earn the full 93 points. A 92.9999 is an A-. This example applies to the entire grading scale.

Failure to comply with the requirement to wear a face covering in class will result in your being asked to leave the classroom immediately and a disciplinary referral through the Dean of Students Office. If you call and I do not answer, leave a message! I will likely call you back right away. MEETING WITH STUDENTS: I want you to succeed in this course. I am happy to meet with you, individually, at any point in the semester. If you, honestly, do not understand why you are not able to be successful in this class, please schedule an appointment. We will meet electronically and there is no need to go to campus for assistance. There should be no reason to not do as well as expected in this class! HOW TO STUDY FOR EXAMS: Most of what you see on an exam is covered in the chapters. Power Points are made available for most chapters. Some of what is covered on exams comes from material made available but not covered in the book and power points. WHAT SHOULD YOU CALL ME? Professor Ortega or Mr. Ortega works. Although the exams are open book/notes, you must be able to quickly make a decision when answering questions. Time will pass by quickly. Review the syllabus regularly and read announcements frequently. It is important you keep up with what you need to know when you need to know it. Fair Warning: Do not make the mistake of taking the exams in groups or with anyone else. Exams must be completed independently.

CAN YOU REVIEW YOUR COMPLETED EXAM? Yes! Students may review the completed exam one week after the exam closing date and for one week only. To review the exam, simply email me and I will make arrangements for you to review the exam during the dates the exam is made available. All questions regarding Blackboard should be referred to the Blackboard office.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM TAKING THE EXAM AND ENCOUNTER COMPUTER PROBLEMS? Make sure your computer is working, you have a consistent connection, and you know how to use Blackboard. No exceptions and/or resetting exams are made for computer problems. There are many computers available to you on campus. FAIR WARNINGDO NOT TAKE THE EXAM IN THE LIBRARY. THE COMPUTERS THERE TEND TO BE SLOW. MASS EMAILS: Do not, under any circumstances, send a mass email to the class. It is unprofessional and no one likes to get them.
