HIGHLAND SCHOOL LIBRARY

BACKGROUND OF THE LIBRA • The SRC is at the heart of Highlands School and has a vast selection of resources for all students during their journey at Highland School •Library opening hours are 8:30am – 4:15pm Monday to Thursday, Friday close at 4pm. •Homework Club: Monday to Thursday 3.15 pm – 4.30pm (subject to availability)

SRC COLLECTION OF THE LIBRARY • They have 14,000 books which support literacy and research across the whole school. • they have a vast collection of fiction books ranging from Classics and Literature to Sports books. • they have 64 PCs in the SRC booked by teachers all day, every day during opening hours

SRC Concept of the Library •Highlands School Library concept is modern , vibrant , attractive and more interesting • this concept designed will feel more relaxed and practical .

Activities/Programs of the Library • They have a monthly theme to promote and support students to reading •They also support Olympiad for new Year 7s to en to go on. •They also make a programs self-help workshop

Environments and Decorations of the library • they decide to make a big space for the studen access • they have colorful bookshelves to create cheerful environment for the students •They have different spaces that students can use which is small groups and large group . •They also have section according to their age .

Services/Facilities of the Library •they also have introduced various initiatives to promote reading • they have a mobile library where the Librarian visits the students in class and lends books •Year 7s have Library Lessons every fortnight to encourage consistent reading and reading activities •eBook platform is aimed at reluctant readers to encourage reading via other means •They subscribe to The Day which is a daily newspaper aimed at Students to encourage independent thinking.

CHEAM HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY

Background of the Library •The SRC is a busy and popular area within the school •Relocating to a purpose built building in March 2012 provided the pe t opportunity to introduce exciting innovations, including vibrant furniture and hi-tech equipment. •The SRC is staffed from 7:45am and is open to students at break and lunchtimes. •This library have time according the age which is Monday to Friday - 12:10pm to 12:50pm (Years 7 & 8) . Next, Monday to Friday - 1:10pm to 1:50pm (Years 9, 10 & 11) . Monday to Friday 10:50am to 11:10am (Years 10 & 11 Coursework/Homework) and Monday to Friday - 2:50pm to 4:30pm (Homework Club)

SRC Collection of the Library •They have over 11,000 books, Kindles, audio books, daily newspapers and a selection of magazines there really is something for everyone. •A separate computer suite, adjacent to the SRC, contains 35 computers and is available during normal opening hours and lesson times.

Activities/Programs of the library •Activities / programs the school year the LRC runs numerous special events which are either of topical interest, tied in with the curriculum, or to raise money for charity. •The SRC has also run, with the English department, a very successful Bronze, Silver and Gold Reading Challenge for Year 7 whereby each student has to read and complete activities based around a set number of books.

Environments And Decorations of the Library •The versatility of the room allows us to change the arrangement of the furniture to suit the activities of the day • a cinema area with surround-sound can be set up, allowing us to show current screenings of age appropriate material, which are always appreciated by our students. •The SRC works closely with teaching staff to support the curriculum. •Students from Years 12 & 13 have their own library which is located in the 6th Form Study Zone. Services/Facilities of the Library •Students may purchase a wide range of stationery from the SRC Shop at very reasonable prices, using their cashless cards and cash. • a monthly Book Club, through which books can be purchased and a photocopying service

My recommendation/Suggestion to improve Malaysia SRC •create a small cafe for students to enjoy without starving while reading and the cafe does not sell heavy food but just the snacks . •make improvement with add many computer for students used because easy to all students find information to don’t queuing anymore for using it . •upgrade the E-book , many students prefer to access electronic books (e-books) compared to the printed books. • add many new furniture such as table , chair or sofas ....
