(August 28th)- the development of the self is achieved through

self-presentation and self-realization -

After Plato died his idea regarding the body and immortality of the soul also died.

500 years when Plotinus added a new breath to the views of Plato regarding the soul. Plotinus is Ashamed of the fact that his soul that is superior is caged into the inferior body thus he didn’t want to celebrate his birthdays because he felt sad of the idea that each year that passes his life, his soul still remains contain into the imperfect body. He lost his voice etc. “ If the Platonists could have had their lives over again with us, they would have become Christians, with change of a few words and statements.” – St. Augustine DUALISM OF REALITY Physical Realm – represented by the body, changing, imperfect, dies. Ideal Realm- Unchanging and immortal, survives after death of the body. St Augustine- a converted Christian. He adapted the Metaphysics of Christian belief. PLATO 1. SOUL- achieves eternal realm through intellectual enlightenment 2. BODY is inferior

ST AUGUSTINE 1. SOUL - strives to achieve God through faith and reason 2. BODY - is inferior and our physical world is proving ground for eternal destiny

The development of the self is achieved through self-presentation and self-realization. St. Augustine was not afraid to accept to himself and tell people about his sinfulness. However, the realization of the wasted self is achieved through his conversion of the faith. Thus, his journey towards understanding the self, was centered on his religious convictions and beliefs. -Salvation Villafuerte, et.al. WHAT DID YOU DO AFTER YOU REALIZED YOUR SELF PRESENTATION? If you don’t have done anything about it, then there will be no dev of the self and for St. Augustine, he focus his journey toward understanding the self towards his conviction and beliefs. Mans and goals in life is HAPPINESS according to St. Augustine If you were able to recognized God then that’s the time you can attain happiness.
