Description

Jose Polanco Dr. Friendman Scottboro Boys Spring 2014 Scottboro Boys In this report, Hollace Ransdell, speaks on the sentences of the Scottboro boys. It begins with the background information about a trip two mill girls, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates, do to Chattanooga in order to look for work in other companies. The way they transport there and back is by hitching a ride on the open train cars. On their way back they find themselves in a car with a group of white males who Victoria becomes very fond of, while ruby decides to just keep to herself. According to Victoria, midway through their train ride 12 black males climb into the car and supposedly kick the white men off. Upon doing so, Victoria exclaims that 6 of them had their way with her, and the other six with Ruby. Upon reaching the next station, all of these black boys are arrested. Once going to trial, Victoria manages to sway the entire courtroom in her favor regardless of a good portion of the evidence not complying with her story. Neat less to say, the jury sided with the white girl and sentenced all the boys except one to death while the youngest of the bunch spends his life in prison....
