Description

Tanglewood Case 6 Questions Question 1 I think the first effective way to ensure you are receiving the best candidates is through Application Blanks where the candidates are submitting their educational requirements and their work experience through management. I think the blanks should consider having a High School Diploma as their minimum requirement and anything above that be an asset, as well as a minimum of 1 year experience in a Management/Leader role in a workplace and anything above that is an asset. This would eliminate anyone who does not meet the bare minimum for qualifications. The employer should also use weighted application blanks to showcase those with the higher end of management experience therefore having the training process easier, better fit for the job and overall have the ‘super’ candidates be first for interviews. Question 2 Some KSAO’s that are not being advertised in the case include: -

Ability to organize throughout the department Interpersonal Skills Knowledge on how to use basic computer functions/software Oral communication skills (although may be determinable through the interview process) Flexibility in dealing with changes Ability and Skills as a leader Ability to create schedules Ability to take initiative Responsible

Question 3 and 2 situational Interview questions Tell me about a time you were in placement of leadership unexpectedly and how did you approach the situation? (Leadership skills) Explain to me a situation where you needed to adapt to change in the workplace where it was detrimental to the job? (Flexibility with changes) Given this example please explain how you would approach the situation. One of the employees from your department approaches you and tells you they need to go home because they are sick, your department has a lot of work to be done today and this employee will be make or break it for completing the tasks. What do you do? (flexibility and communication skills) Given this situation explain to me how you would approach the situation. Using the knowledge of the basic computer software system, you have over a thousand files that need to be organized and sorted. The files include payroll of your employees in the department, schedules and daily task forms. What do you do and how do you organize them? (Knowledge of computer functions, organizational skills)

Given this example explain how you would deal with the situation. Two of your employees are not getting along, one of your employees in your department comes to you personally and asks you to not schedule them together. This employee is clearly uncomfortable with the current situation and has requested your help. What do you do? Tell me about a time you were thrown into a disorganized situation or a disorganized physical environment and how did you organize it? (Organizational skills) Tell me a time you went above and beyond for work and why did you need or want to? (leadership and initiative) Describe a situation where you saw a problem and took steps to fix it? (Initiative) What would you do if you made a mistake that no one else in the workplace noticed such as making a incorrect schedule change? If you saw an employee trying to avoid work and avoid you, what would you do and how do you approach the situation? (Communication skills, leadership and initiative)...
