Description

Professor Meadow TCH 201 To Teach: Chapter 2 In order to see the different learning style of each student and to truly see each student’s dynamic, he makes a connection with each one to make sure that he can accommodate them in every way that he can. It is important to individualize each student and establish that connection so that we can do everything we can to ensure their success within the classroom and beyond. Sometimes, students have very different learning styles and it can be hard to get them all to listen to one specific style. Ayers combats this by letting students take the reigns sometimes. By allowing students to present projects or things that they are interested in, this creates a diverse learning environment and gets the students excited to present and to listen to their peers speak about things that they love. Labeling students with disorders and conditions can, in some cases, help. But in others in can greatly hinder the success of the student. I f the teacher meets a student with an assumption given to them by another teacher or an administrator, the teacher is not looking at the student for themself, and already making an assumption. Sometimes students are misdiagnosed or hastily given a label in order to make the teachers job easier, and sometimes this can actually hinder the student and their learning. Ayers creates a very diverse learning environment by incorporating the students into the lesson plans, crafting specific activities and lessons based on his audience. He makes sure to know a lot about the students and how they are feeling. He constantly checks in on them and reads them through their work. I think that this is an essential step to

making sure that not only the learner inside of the student is healthy and happy, but the person inside of them as well. Ayers does not take to the administrators hasty judgements too well. He doesn’t like their use of labels or their assumptions about his students, and prefer that they take the time to learn about the students learning styles and personal habits. T  he administrators, in this scenario, appear to be very clinical and do not see the students as individuals. They see the students as things that need to be categorized and sorted in order to optimize the efficiency of the classroom, giving them each a different place in a specific category. This can be extremely detrimental to the student and their future success. By putting a label on someone, you are branding them and giving them a category to live under until someone “reevaluates them” to see if they still fit under that category. In my opinion, it is very important for people to make their own assumptions. People know what they can and cannot handle, and know the bet course of action to handle each situation. Labels are not necessary to put on students because each teacher should get to know the student in order to evaluate the students learning and the best environment for them. I think that Ayers is a phenomenal teacher. H  e does his best to see each student for who they are and create the best environment possible for them to grow and reach their full potential. He eliminates labels and focuses on the positive and wonderful things that the students are producing and learning. I believe that the student is the best judge of if the teacher is good or if they are not as effective. If a student feels loved and supported by a teacher and comes out of the class knowing more than they did going in, I feel that that is very indicative of the success of the teacher....
