Team Dynamics Team dynamics is a broad concept and represents the way in which team members behave and the psychological processes underlying these interactions within the team. Individual or team characteristics that may affect group behavior and performance in relation to effective communication include the following: 1. Distorting or withholding information in order to manage a person’s reactions. 2. Selective Perspective which refers to filtering information to suit our own needs 3. Information overload to an individual or team members 4. Emotional disconnects 5. Lack of information source credibility 6. Gender differences in communication style According to Sage Journals, project and management teams have slightly higher performance when they include more members. Team-level task meaningfulness as delivered by effective communication strategies exhibits a modest but inconsistent relationship with performance (Stewart, 2006).

Theories That support Positive Team Dynamics Team cognition, cohesion and conflict are important in predicting the bringing forward positive team dynamics (CQ, n.d.). Team cognition emphases on importance of decision making in a team setup and how teams evaluate situations. This is ideally pegged on an individual’s knowledge and how this knowledge is distributed across team members. Team cognition can be considered to contribute towards positive team dynamics and productivity since everyone on the team will be geared towards the same goal. Team cohesions refers to the social connections or bonds that occur or exist between team members. Motivational factors that enhanced by team cohesion usually contribute towards positive team dynamics by increasing productivity.

Technologies One technology that can be used to effectively lead a team is project management tools that include concepts such as Gantt Charts, Work Break Down Charts and PERT charts. These tools can be used to effectively track the progress of a certain project.
