The film tells the story of two men, completely opposite, they begin to fight cancer. On the one hand Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) who is not more than a busy millionaire businessman who lacks humor, and on the other hand Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) whom life led him to end as a car mechanic. Both protagonists share a room in the hospital, with opposite attitudes, the characters are not able to establish a relationship, since there are more opposites between them than those who share. Carter Chambers recalls an exercise given by his philosophy professor many years ago, the which consisted of writing a list which explains the desires, the activities that each perform before his death and write that list, Edward Cole decides to spy on her once undone and from that moment, both decide, despite their health, to use the last time that was left to fulfill each of the written wishes.
