The Garden of Forking Paths Summary Brandon Ness Our narrator, Dr. Yu Tsun, finds himself and his partner, who are German spies, discovered by the British. He now finds himself in a dilemma: he knows the location of a stockpile of British weapons, but he has no way of letting Germany know. All the while, Captain Richard Madden is chasing him down. After taking a stockpile of the items on his person, which includes a revolver with one bullet and some miscellaneous coins and such, he devises his plan and phones the only person whom can help him complete his mission. He then travels by train to see the person he called. While boarding the train, he is nearly caught by Madden, but escapes and finds himself at the house of Dr. Stephen Albert. Albert tells Tsun of his ancestor, Ts’ui Pen, who worked for thirteen years to create a labyrinth and a novel until he was assassinated without, supposedly, finishing either. However, Albert reveals that the mess of a novel that Pen wrote was, in fact, his labyrinth, as it was a story which told of multiple-scenario-futures. After this news is revealed, Madden arrives and Tsun shoots Albert in the back. Tsun’s chief sees the murder in the newspaper and realizes where the British stockpile is located: the city of Albert. The Germans then succeed in bombing the stockpile, and Tsun is arrested and executed, having fulfilled his duty....
