The Johari Window Project Essay

The day of this activity I had no idea what was about to happen in class, since I forgot to check the syllabus to check what we were going to do today. So at the time the professor mentioned that we would be working with the Johari window project the first thing that I thought was, “what’s that?” but I didn’t really honestly care at first. I thought this would just be another very simple activity in which I wouldn’t learn anything. And at the time then I was presented with the two sheets, I had a few adjectives that I could identify with my personality. Many from the list sounded like me but I chose the most relatable. Then the professor started explaining the activity more and more, and I came to realize that the whole class was about to basically judge with what little they knew about me. And honestly, I panicked. The thought of others determining what I was or wasn’t based off casual first encounters made me uncomfortable. But I just stopped thinking about it and just continued with the activity. I was completely amazed when my sheets came back to me. If I had to simply explain this activity it would be something around the lines; The Johari Window Project is an activity in which people can compare how they see themselves to how others view them. . I see myself as a shy, quiet, independent, friendly and calm person. When I was given back my papers, I saw that my classmates see me as friendly, smart, quiet, knowledgeable, confident, kind, mature, and extroverted. Speaking only on the things my classmates just selected in this activity I can clearly say that I’m really happy with the results of this activity. I realized that only in the short amount of time we’ve all interacted with each other they saw all the qualities within me that I didn't really see myself. And many of the qualities my classmates selected are almost exactly what I want

The Johari Window Project Essay people to categorize as when the first get a chance to meet me, this is how I want people to think of me as the first impression they get of me . I want to be friendly and make people comfortable around me. This project reaffirmed to me my confidence and friendliness. I try and portray myself in such a way that people see me as confident because I tend to be comfortable with most people, since I really enjoy talking to people and I believe that when talking to someone is whim I’m most comfortable. The fact that both I and my classmates could see my confidence and friendliness, this makes me realize that what I’m doing is right and if I keep going like this, people will see me as I want them to. One of the things I didn’t expect at all going into this activity happened, three people circled me as “smart & knowledgeable” I’ve always been very insecure about my intellect, something I keep in my hidden self-quadrant. Yet, people perceive me as the one thing I never thought people would assume me to be any of this qualities. In conclusion, this project revealed that others see a lot more in me than I see in myself. This gave me a good feeling as well because it made me feel like I truly can be bold . This project also taught me that others do not see me as being calm, even though I feel as though I am person that can easily show their emotions in his face and not calm at all. This project changed completely my original opinion I had about activities such as this one, as mentioned before I believe this would be a worthless activity, but at the end I understood how cool and eye opening an activity such as this one can be. Overall I enjoyed the Johari Window Project and hope to continue working on more fun activities as such.
