Description

The National Development Policy is a Malaysian economic policy launched by Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He implemented the strategy with the goal of generating rapid economic growth while ensuring that earnings reached people from all walks of life. In 1990, the Malaysian New Economic Policy (NEP) was superseded by the National Development Policy (NDP). However, a number of NEP policies for affirmative action for bumiputera are still in existence. According to this underlying backdrop, the Malays' share of the economy does not achieve the government's objective of 30%, despite the fact that the Malays' population is larger. According to his study of the NEP, the government discovered that, while wealth disparity has decreased, several essential targets relating to Malay business ownership have not been met generally. This strategy was adopted in 1991 for a 10-year period before being superseded in 2001 by the National Vision Policy (NVP). The NDP's fundamental aim is national unity because when the entire community is unified, it is the most essential factor in strengthening the framework of social and political stability and maintaining long-term economic prosperity. Several measures have been put in place via the NDP to allow Malaysia to reach the status of a developed nation in all aspects, including social, values, ethics, and morals, political stability, quality of life, governance efficiency, and economic excellence. Competition in the International Market is based on the new approach to the NDP. The NDP considered the country's capacity to compete in the global economy. The government urges the whole community to use the resources and results available in the country responsibly in order to establish a good ecosystem and reach the desired degree of national development through the 2020 vision, which was previously announced.

Furthermore, the government has taken the initiative to apply the concept of Training Poverty Reduction through the new approach to the NDP. The concept is geared toward rural kids. The approach will allow them to obtain skilled employment and greater salaries to support their living expenses. Aside from that idea, the government is also implementing a Community Restructuring process, with the goal of eliminating racial association with economic function, and ownership restructuring will continue to be the major programme under this approach. In summary, the national development policy will maintain its attempts to eliminate the country's economic inequalities, not just between ethnic groups, but also between wealthy and poor and between regions.
