• Raymond finally sent the letter narrator wrote • Went to movies 2x with Emmanuel • Marie came over as planned ○ Went to beach, hooked up ○ Stayed until morning and had lunch together ○ "when she laughed I wanted her again. A minute later she asked me if I loved her. I told her it didn’t mean anything but that I didn't think so. She looked sad. But as we were fixing lunch, and for no apparent reason, she laughed in such a way that I kissed her. It was then that we heard what sounded like a fight break out in Raymond's room." • Woman: shrieking, Raymond :hitting her ○ Marie and narrator went to find a policeman ○ Narrator doesn't like cops • Around 3:00 Raymond came to talk to narrator ○ "He'd done what he wanted to do but that she'd slapped him and so he'd beaten her up." (pg. 37) ○ Narrator had to witness for him - had to say that girl cheated on him, narrator agreed, Raymond bought him a brandy • Going back hom, Salamano didn’t have dog, he looked flustered ○ He was looking everywhere ○ "ive been meaning to get him a smaller collar… but I never thought the bastard would take off like that" (pg. 38) ○ "but they'll take him away from me, don’t you see? If only somebody would

take him in. but that's imipossible - everybody's disgusted by his scabs. The police'll get him for sure." (pg. 39) • After going back upstairs, Salamano came back ○ He wouldn't come in, refused to do so ○ He was trembling ○ "they're not going to take him away from me, are they, Monsieur Meursault? They'll give him back to me. Otherwise, what's going to happen to me?" ○ I told him that the pound kept dogs for 3 days so owners could come and claim them and after that they did with them as they saw fit ○ Page 39 • He was crying - salamano ○ Narrator thought of Maman ○ Went to sleep without dinner...
