Understanding the Self Learning Task #2 – Reflection Paper Based on our reading material, I have learned that triadic reciprocal causation refers to a system consisting of three variables that affect human action. These three factors are person, behavior and environment. Person involves cognitive factors such as memory, thoughts, planning and judging. Also, it can be physical attributes like age, sex, size and race, while behavior signifies the way in which a person acts especially toward others, and environment refers to external factors of an individual such as events, places and other people as well. The term “reciprocal” indicates that these variables have correlative relationships and affect each other unequally. This means that depending on the individual and with the situation, there will always be a dominant factor or variable in building and executing one’s action. There were several events happened in my life which I might say this reciprocal causation and their interactions was applied yet I am unaware of. One of my experiences was when our three-day finals examination on first semester last year was done, my friends (environment) want to go at the cinema and watch Alone/Together movie. They said that we should reward ourselves for finishing a very huge task well. At this point, they influenced my behavior (E » B), that is, my contentment (behavior) to give myself a rest as my reward. But at the first place, I am not fond of giving myself a reward by spending money after doing a remarkable task because I thought (person) it was such a waste of money, but my friends kept on insisting. After a few moments, they finally outpowered my thoughts of saving my money on that day (E » P). Obviously, environment was the most powerful factor among the three in this experience. My reflections on this event are: if I stick with my behavior that I am contented on rest as my only reward and use my height to dominate them (person), it will mold my friends’ behavior as if they would stop convincing me (B » E, P » E). Moreover, my contentment could lead my own cognition if I let it to (B » P). Same with my thoughts if I think several times that saving is a wise thing, it could probably change my behavior for good (P » B). At the end of the day, instead of adding my remaining allowance to my savings, I ended up spending it all even though I was hesitant at first. But it is fine because money cannot buy the happiness, I felt that time. Therefore, I conclude that, after discovering this lesson, I can say this will change the way how I construct and show my future behaviors. I am now aware that there are three reciprocal variables which are behavior, environment and I as a person that influence each other. I must be careful with my decisions and actions in life because of effects or consequences to take place....
