1. Degrees you would need in order to work in your special field (one to two sentences).

In order to become a Forensic pathologist you need an M.D. degree, like a regular doctor. You also need a special training in pathology through a residency or clinical fellowship. 2. What someone in your chosen specialty does (one to two sentences).

Forensic pathologists determine the time and cause of death through autopsies. Forensic pathologist mainly work in laboratories but they may visit crime scenes and appear in court if needed. They may work with local or federal government or they may also work in hospitals. 3. A real-life example of how your specialty was used to solve a case (at least three sentences).

Leanne Tiernan a 16 year old girl was abducted and found murdered in England. A forensic pathologist was important in this case for doing an autopsy and finding out that her body was not originally in the location where she was found murdered and they also determined that she was killed by suffocation. 4. A brief summary detailing what you think the two biggest challenges would be with your specialty and what you feel would be most rewarding or enjoyable about it (three to five sentences).

I think the two biggest challenges with Forensic pathology is determining the time and cause of death and the autopsy. The time of death is difficult because they have to look at the stage of decomposition in a body. If the death was recent, they may use the body’s stiffness, blood patterns, and temperature to figure out when the death occurred. The cause of death is difficult because the autopsy usually reveals the cause of death. Sometimes it’s obvious, as with a gunshot wound or blunt force trauma. In other cases, it’s more complicated if a person was wounded and then later died from infection, for example. It can be tricky to determine time and cause of death because of the complex factors involved. The autopsy is difficult because an incorrect autopsy finding can lead to an innocent person being convicted or a guilty person going free. I think the most rewarding or enjoyable thing about a Forensic pathologist is that you are trained to solve all mysteries no matter how difficult or complicated and because of that knowledge you can give testimonies that can essentially prove that a person is innocent or guilty of the suspected crime....
