BIOLOGY 1121 UNIT 6 DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT ...

Description

There are various concepts which help us understand genetic traits. This might include the relationship between genotypes and phenotypes dominance and how they receive the genetic system. In this discussion will explore the Chromosomal Theory of inheritance and how it helps us understand advanced genetics.

According to Openstax college (2013) the Chromosomal Theory of inheritance proposed by Sutton and Boveri connote that chromosomes carry the unit of heredity. The theory connotes that chromosomes are key to understand levels of heredity as explained by Mindel’s publication which re-evaluates the behaviour of chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis. As observed by Boveri (1992) cited by

Openstax college(2013) that proper embryonic

development of sea doesn’t occur unless chromosomes are present. This according to the Theory of Inheritance the chromosomes are the genetical material vital for genetic inheritance.

Morgan identified a 1:1 correspondence between a segregating trait and the X chromosomes, propelling that the random segregation of chromosomes(Openstax college,2013). This can make a clear the point why Boveri and Sutton’s theory posits that genes are found at specific locations on chromosomes and that behaviour of chromosomes during meiosis hence which goes in agreement with Mendel's law of inheritance. Thus, the chromosomal theory of inheritance help in a great way for us to understand how genetics work.

The theory is supported by many scientists who reinforced the relationship between genetic traits and chromosomes. For instance, Morgan did research and studied that inheritance of white eye and showed that mutation of white eye resides on the X chromosome. These sentiments were endorsed by many other scientific types of research and importantly microscopes improved significantly to see the detail of these chromosomes. Thus, the Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance is backed by empirical scientific evidence that help us to understand genetics as through research genes were cross-linked by determining how frequently two genes were inherited together.

It need to be stressed that the Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance argues that each chromosome can carry many linked genes. This helps us to understand genetics as one individual can possess a number or many genetic traits. Thus, as proposed by Sutton and Boveri that chromosome is vital plays of genetic heredity. This theory states individual genes are found at specific locations on particular chromosomes and the behaviour of chromosomes during meiosis explain the reasons why genes are inherited as stipulated by Medel’s law (Openstax college,2013).

The Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance helps us to understand how genes are linked, hence the linked genes are likely to be inherited together because they are close to one another on the same chromosome. Therefore, through the meiosis, chromosomes are recombined resulting in gene swaps between homologous chromosomes. Thus, the reason why we cannot separate the Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance in the bid to understand genetics and inheritance traits.

In conclusion, chromosomes play a vital in regards to genetic traits being passed from one generation to the next. Hence, genetics, genes, DNA traits, chromosomes are inseparable as clearly articulated by the Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance essentially help us to understand and advance our knowledge of genetics.
