Description

Steven Ajayi Attributes of Sports Leaders (P6) Communication: Communication is the act to exchange knowledge and information through various ways for example speaking, hand gestures, body language and communication can also be shown by writing things down. Communication come be divided into different sections which are nonverbal, verbal and hand signals/gestures. Verbal communication is the act of people communicating with others orally or in other words it is the act of communicating with others with the usage of words. Verbal communication is very important in sports because it allows players to communicate with peers and teammates effectively. Some teams use Verbal communication to the extent that they make up their own words to represent a tactic and by them doing this the opposition wouldn’t know what is happening. Non-Verbal communication is the act of communicating without the usage of words. Non-Verbal communication can be displayed through hand gestures such as pointing and having hand signs that have a meaning body language can also be a type of hand gesture. Non-Verbal communication is very beneficial in various sports particularly basketball because when an event occurs the referee wouldn’t have to waste time communicating through words when they can communicate Non-Verbally through hand signals and body language. The usage of Non-Verbal Communication in basketball will allow the play to keep up with the tempo it already has and it will also ensure that the game doesn’t slow down. Verbal communication is important because it allows players to communicate with a clear understanding of what is being said. And players don’t always have to look at the player who is speaking because verbal communication is oral so the players can hear what is being said. Non- verbal communication is important because it can keep up with the play of the match a great example of this would be the usage it by basketball referees. And in the Paralympics or specially designed activities for the disabled people hand gestures is crucial because it is a way to communicate with the people with disabilities. Verbal and Non-Verbal have similarities and differences. Some similarities that both types of communication share is that they are both ways to get a message across. But verbal communication is an easier way to communicate with players and players don’t have to look directly at the speak person before the message gets across. The disadvantage of verbal communication is that it is very difficult to communicate with disabled people verbally and deaf people cannot communicate verbally unless they can lip-read. Non-verbal communication is good in sport because it can keep up with the tempo of the game and the referee doesn’t always have to sop before he can say something. It is also very beneficial in disabled sports events. Hand signals can also communicate with everyone if they learn what the gestures and signals mean. The disadvantage of this is that it will take a while before the signs can be learnt. Communication is very important in sports because it enables teams to pass messages around effectively. Football managers must always have good communication. An example of a

manager with good usage and understanding of communication is Pep Guardiola. Pep needs good communication and he must also know how to communicate with the players effectively. Pep is a manager who is known for his tactics the most famous one is the famous Tiki Taka which was perfected by Barcelona when he was in charge. Pep must now how to present these tactics to his team and must also know how to explain it to his players individually. Pep must know how to communicate with his players n group and individually so that he can make the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the players clear. Pep must also know how to communicate with his players effectively during a match. Pep usually gives instructions to his players during a match when the ball goes dead. `...
