Nitu Sarker Professor Iemma FYW 1000C 29 February 2016 Technology Technology has made our everyday lives highly convenient and innovative. We can't imagine going a day without our phones or computers. It has become a source for information and leisure. Technology continues to evolve constantly. Even within the last decade it has changed tremendously. Although technology has made our lives a lot easier, it may have also taken over our lives. Children are surrounded by different gadgets and new systems every single day. When a child cries now, instead of giving him or her a toy, the parent gives an iPhone or iPad. Times have changed so much along with new inventions. Kids today can’t imagine a life without these gadgets. However, that has probably become a large issue already. Kids no longer know how to socialize or function without being behind a screen. The use of technology has a huge effect on the development of a child. Research has shown that the use of computer technology has detrimental effects in the development of critical thinking skills, analysis, and scientific inquiry. School systems have also incorporated technology into the curriculum for children as young as seven or eight years old. This can eventually have a negative effect in the long run. I am choosing this specific topic because I went through this “tech change” myself. In my freshman year of high school, my entire grade was given Ipads to use. Binders and loose leaf were no longer required. All our assignments and notes were on the Ipad. We were the guinea pigs in this experiment the Roslyn school district was taking part in. I believe that if we weren’t

given access to a mini computer at all times, I would’ve actually learned more. I would get my evidence from databases, scholarly articles, and surveys. I can use articles that discuss the effects of technology on children in education systems. I can also take surveys from other students that went to Roslyn High School and were part of the Ipad experiment....
