Write a hand in where you answer the questions given. 5. Hand in your answers on Fronter 1. How does Thurston address a serious issue using humor? First he talks about his name. He made everybody laugh when he said that his parents gave him an extraordinary name. His name includes a Nigerian name, Arabic name and a British name. He talks about how he grew up living with white people, how hard it was, but he looks at the situation from a different perspective. He tells us how scared he was when he got pulled over by a police because he did not want to get shot by the police. 2. What kind of effect does this have according to you? This kind of Ted Talks effects me the most. It´s like comedy but true story. The audience knows when he jokes and when he is serious. This talk effected me because I know that this is a real struggle and problem USA inhabitants has today. 3. Thurston mentions a couple of hashtags having the slang word "Becky" in it. What does that word mean? It is a slang word for a white woman. 4. He also mentions the Jim Crow laws. What are these? The Jim Crow laws were a number of laws requiring racial segregation in the United States. 5. What would you say is the meaning of the "word game" he has? Is there any deeper meaning to it? I think that the meaning of this “word game” is that he want us to see how an article from the newspaper could be angled. Everything is not written on the news, like the whole background story. 6. What is his main points? 7. How do you think his main points can be connected to the happenings in the US right now? 8. Is there anything that can be done in order to avoid things like the killing of George Floyd or harassment as in the YouTube clip in the future? 9.
