Me talk pretty one day...
Ashley Burritt 1/20/21
In “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris, he claims that social acceptance, language is key. Sedaris uses how he had to learn a new language and all the curses the teacher used as an example to enlighten the readers about the struggles. In paragraph 22 it states “Learning French is a lot like joining a gang in that it involves a long and intensive period of hazing. And it wasn’t just my teacher; the entire population seemed to be in on it. Following brutal encounters with my local butcher and the concierge of my building, I would head off to class, where the teacher would hold my corrected paperwork high above her head, shouting, "Here's proof that David is an ignorant and uninspired ensigiejsokhjx."” and in paragraph 30 “Understanding does not mean that you can suddenly speak the language. Far from it. It's a small step, nothing more, yet its rewards are intoxicating and deceptive. The teacher continued her diatribe, and I settled back, bathing in the subtle beauty of each new curse and insult.” this is evidence of the claim as Sedaris says the French is like a gang and when he finally
understood what his teacher was saying he took in everything his teacher was saying. David Sedaris connects with the audience by using his experience and making it humorous. David Sedaris’s claim is strong as its true that if you can't speak the language then it's hard to be accepted in the social society. Sedaris’s target audience is for people who are either learning a new language or are having a trouble time learning a new skill....
