Description

Who is Henry Fielding? What contributions did he make to the security industry? What would you have done differently? Henry Fielding was a magistrate in London during the mid-1700s that created the Bow Street Runners by paying the constable and ex-constables to find and arrest offenders. The Bow Street Runners was a more organized and professional group than the thief takers. I do not think I would have done anything differently. Using what we know now of criminals would definitely have an effect on the way one would run things in the past, I believe that he handled things well in creating an organized force to serve and protect based on what he knew for the time. What reasons can you imagine for there to be more security professionals than law enforcement professionals? I believe that there are more security professionals than law enforcement because of the need for specific physical security. For instance, I live in Las Vegas, our casinos are full of countless security guards. Each has a specific duty area in which they command, maintain, and protect. Their jobs are specific to the company they work for and protecting the information, people or infrastructure. I also believe that it may have a little to do with finances. Security guards are usually paid for by the company or individual who needs and uses them. Whereas our law enforcement officials are paid for by the state or county. If the state and county does not have the funds to pay for a large police force, the number of law enforcement officials will be lower compared to a large billion-dollar company that can afford many more guards. Based on your present understanding and perception of security, has the field attained status as a profession? How do you define a profession? What issues still require work? What successes have there been? Which part of the history of private security made the biggest contribution to contemporary security? Why? Point to specifics to defend your answer. The Bow Street Runners made the biggest contribution to contemporary security. They broke through new barriers and created a force to crack down on crime, while getting paid to do so. Throughout history people did what they could to protect what they believed to be assets at the time. From the tens and hundreds protecting each other to our now neighborhood watch. They created the foundation for which our contemporary security is based upon.

Examine the reasons why people commit crime. Which fits most with your thoughts on crime? Which is furthest from your understanding? Explain your answer. There are many theories as to why people commit crime. I believe many different things play a role in why people commit crimes. Such as their poverty level and ethical compass. An example would be, a homeless mother with a child to feed stealing food from a store. She steals only enough to feed the child, and goes hungry herself. She knows that stealing is wrong, but letting her child starve is worse. With that, she chose to steal and feed her child. Though stealing is committing a crime, she could not live with herself by letting her child die. She chose to do the least harm possible and do what was good for her child. On the other end of the spectrum, I also believe that some people are mentally unstable based on previous experiences or traumas. For instance, a man that murders women in a specific way usually has a deep seeded reason for why he does things in certain ways to the women he murders. I do not believe that people commit crimes just because they can. The situations in which they are raised plays an important role, and to say otherwise is far off from what I understand and believe. What do you think would be the toughest part about working with the union issues as a security manager? Give specifics!...
