Description

ENG101 Writing Lab 2: Brainstorming For this Writing Lab, I want you to choose two different brainstorming techniques that we have read or discussed as see how each works for you toward generating and/or organizing ideas toward MA1: The Essay. Our purpose is to get a hands-on sense of what the assets and liabilities of such techniques are, and what we might want to integrate and change about our writing process in the future. Keep in mind, there are three essential functions of different brainstorming techniques: 1) those that generate ideas, 2) those that organize ideas, and 3) those that do both. The two that you choose and the order in which you attempt them are entirely up to you; just be thoughtful and deliberative about your choices. I do, however, encourage you toward techniques that are more unfamiliar to you. Please respond to the questions below as thoroughly as possible before starting your experiment. After conducting your study, respond to the Lab sections.

I.

Before Your Experiment

First please describe in detail what your brainstorming process usually is for writing.

Now, what two techniques did you choose?

Why did you choose those two particular techniques?

In what order do you plan to attempt them, and why that order for your experiment?

What do you want to discover from these two techniques and/or their order?

II.

Lab Report

Technique 1: What You Did & How You Did It

Technique 1: Results

Technique 2: What You Did & How You Did It

Technique 2: Results

Conclusions (Further Discussion, Reflections, Analysis) Discuss your thoughts on the experience and results with each technique. Compare the values of each. Postulate what you may take away from this; what you might do and do differently in the future for your writing process....
