Univ 1001: Unit 4 Assignment

Nasira has to find a good procurement source immediately to keep the production running without delay. Being a new employee in her company with a tight schedule at the work, and working on paycheck-to-paycheck, Nasira was feeling mental pressure. Nasira now needs to find a solution for her workplace which requires the following conditions to meet – a. Finding a procurement source for fabric immediately; b. Ensuring the procurement is done within budget and meeting quality requirements. Nasira was concern about her work, her financial status, and her promotion. She was working hard to find new sources and found extra challenges when their regular fabric supplier went out of the business. Nasira found two potential sources, one located in the country and the other one is from overseas. Nasira did not have much time to search for more sources and evaluate their acceptability. However, she is in the situation to decide on the two potential sources.

From the given situation we find that Naria has few concerns which are preventing her to take a decision on which supplier to choose. To solve Nasira’s issue first we need to check carefully if Nasira’s concerns have got valid reasoning, then we might come to a solution. To solve Nasira’s problem we will use two important tools of critical thinking – evaluation and reasoning. The concerns behind Midwestern supplier All-Fabric Inc. have some valid information. Nasira collected media reports about the company’s use of local water sources illegally and local residents’ complaints about it. It seemed All-Fabric Inc. has violated laws and for this reason, they might be charged, which could result in an even shout-down of their production facilities. In that case, selecting the company as a supplier, Nasira might get in trouble. Moreover, the products of the company do not meet the quality standard for her company. All-Fabric company’s product is not as competitive as Fab-Right Inc. in terms of price and quality. Now we will check Nasira’s concerns over Fab-Right Inc. Nasira suspected that labor used to manufacture the products in Fab-Right was not done meeting standard conditions. She had also concerns about the environmental effect of the production from the company. Here we find Nasira did not have much information about the company’s production. Without some essential information, she could not decide, so she relied on her presumption. Here Nasira depends mostly on her assumption, rather than gathering solid information. From the story, we find that the product of Fab-Right company is much cheaper and of good quality. We know that, to produce good products good manufacturing facilities are required. It is also possible that the product is cheaper because the company located in a lower-income country where the production cost of labor-driven items could be cheaper. For the environmental effects, Nasira does not have much information about it.

Comparing the two company and their products, we can come to a solution that, FabRight Inc. is much more competitive here, in terms of Nasira’s requirements. Narisra needs to find suppliers who will supply products within Nasira’s budget and also meeting quality requirements. The company is also not facing any apparent legal issues. To be clear about the remaining concerns about the company Nasira needs to collect more information from the company. The best solution can be like this – Nasira proposed the company to be their supplier on some conditions which will meet Nasira’s requirement. In this way, Nasira can try to solve the issue. Nasira should come to this solution because in this way she will not only be clear about her concerns but also meet the requirements she needs to fulfil. As Nasira does not have much time she has to evaluate between the two companies with the information she got so far, instead of searching for new sources, because it may take time and there is no guarantee of availability. Nasira is also a comparatively new employee in the company. We find that she does not have much seniority in the company. She can consult issues with her boss if required, which may help address other issues Nasira might be missing and thus help her make a better decision.
