Description

Franklin Eileen Case Eileen Franklin -Lipsker of Canoga park accused her father George Franklin for raping on November 25, 1989 and the murder of her best friend Susan Nason 20 years ago. (DAN MORAIN, 1995, para. 2) Franklin - Lipsker repressed the memory for almost two decades, the memory flashed back to her when she was in a prayer session with her children in her residence, he remembered how her best friend Susan was killed, in the trance of the flashback she saw and remember who committed the crime who turned out to be her father, George Franklin. George was later arrested for his criminal act which he pleaded not guilty.

In the course of the case Professor F. Loftus from California UC Irvine was in charge of the case, was able to detect she was able to discover lack of compatibility in her story. Eileen story keep changing and also the time of the crime was inaccurate. These caused professor Loftus to doubt the integrity of Eileen’s story, the doubts includes if Eileen actually witnessed the death of her best friend, why did she remain quiet after all these years", these made Professor F. Loftus certain Eileen was making up the story due to false memory (Loftus E.F. & Ketcham, K., 1994, para. 3).

Professor F. Loftus from California UC Irvine went further to establish her certainty of Eileen’s false memory by conducting an interesting experiment. This experiment involves a set of people, twenty in numbers, in the course of the experiment, they were asked to mention 4 activities they could remember about their childhood, activities like skating, injury sustained and so on. Loftus

then implanted a false memory in their head, a story of getting lost in a shopping mall where a man helped them locate their parents. Professor F. Loftus implanted the false memory before questioning the participants. To our surprise, 25% of the participants included the fake memory into their childhood story (Penvas Culture News, 2017, para. 5). After the conclusion of the experiment the court deemed Eileen's testimony as inaccurate and George Franklin became a free man. I in this regard do not have any personal experience with repressed memory. having repressed memory resurface is dangerous because this can cause problem and can put innocent people behind bars. (Loftus E.F. & Ketcham, K., 1994, para. 8).
