They should learn some basic French language, French

3

INTERNATIONAL HRM CASE STUDY – BRUNT HOTELS because the new hotels must be up and running quickly, they ask you to design a selection process which will take a maximum of two days. You must present your ideas and be able to justify why your method is appropriate. Employee selection is the process of identifying the most suitable candidate for the pool of recruits. By selecting candidates for the required positions, an organization will get quality performance of employees who will be willing to follow the rules and procedures of the company. The best advice I can give the management in the selection process is to call for interviews, then use testing for example handwriting, then short listing, use of referees, medical and physical examination and finally appointment letter. ACTIVITY G The management team asks you to conduct Internet-based research to find out what expatriate support services are available in France. You should create a list of the services that are available and provide details of at least one organization which could provide the services. These services should then be listed in order of priority for the expatriates. You will present your ideas, so you should be prepared to justify your reasons for prioritizing the services. There are a lot of organizations that provide expatriate support services in France. The following is the list of services available;

 Arranging French or other language courses

Provision of intercultural training

 Expatriate assistance  Health Insurance  Immigration/Emigration services

4

INTERNATIONAL HRM CASE STUDY – BRUNT HOTELS  Relocation services  Settling in  Assistant in Administrative formalities like Visas, Insurance, Driver’s license, Business permits. I found Expat Services to be an organization that can provide the services. I think most priority expat service includes the following; Assistant in Administrative formalities like Visas, Insurance, Driver’s license, Business permits, Expatriate assistance, Relocation services, settling in, Arranging French or other language courses and Provision of intercultural training. Do you think Brunt Hotels should mostly hire expatriate or local managers? Why? I think that the Brunt Hotel should hire expatriate staffs because the expatriate employees have a better knowledge on understanding how the company business operates. They have the information needed. They can be trusted for flawless operation and smooth functioning of the business because they are familiar with working in that particular country. Which of the six managers (Case Study - Part Five) is most qualified to head the new division? Why? Which training should they attend to complete their skillset? Here is a summary of the six successful candidates. All the six managers are qualified to head the new division but based on their personal issues I would say that Manager E fits that position. This is because he has some of the requirements needed and mostly he understands basic French is keen to understand the language. Also he has background knowledge on how to manage people. The only problem is that he is afraid on how people will see him as he is young. I think he should go for a leadership skill training and emotional intelligence to know how to handle and deal with both old and younger employees.
