Description

Recall your MBTI profile and write a short description of who you are as a leader. Use your knowledge as of now—so, do not copy any earlier statements. Prepare a new description and note any changes or developments. Describe how your learning of the two leadership tools, SCARF and NVC, can help you become the leader you want to be.

Based on the MBTI profile I had taken, I am an INTJ. In the past, my leadership roles were very authoritative. As a leader, I like to take charge in the team. I like for things to follow a systematic flow. I like to have things done timely, and as efficiently as possible. I like to push people to the greatness I believe they can achieve. As a leader, I do not let my emotions affect my actions. I prefer to have quiet time after work, and reflect on what happened throughout the day. I do not like for my subordinates to think friendly of me. I must present myself to the highest regards to gain my team’s respect. Since taking this class, we have learned what it takes to be a leader. It does not mean that you have to be mean, or rude to people. The key to being a good leader is empathy, and transparency. A team will follow who they respect. As such, the leader should provide a great example for their team; this may be in the form of helping with the project, instead of “managing” it. This boosts team morale as they see their leader engaging them on a “lower” level. I used to believe that in order to gain a team’s respect that you have to be authoritative. I’ve since learned that this is absolutely not the case. Open communication is such an important role when it comes to teamwork. If the team does not feel like they can talk to you, or they are afraid of you, then you are not doing a great job as a leader. Empathy boosts team morale. As a leader, I am open to suggestions. I ensure that there is transparency and open communication within the team. I am fair, and ensure that the work is split amongst the team evenly. I am there to help; there is no such thing as a dumb question. I empathize with my team, and do everything in my power to help them excel. I take responsibility for my team’s efforts. Should there be any issues, as a leader, I will work to resolve them in a timely manner. NVC and SCARF are tools that help you to become a great leader. The SCARF tool is used to help communication. It centers around how the brain works and reacts to different scenarios. NVC deals with the emotions behind when you speak to someone. It’s about giving positive feedback and encouraging others. Teamwork is the frame of any good business. At the end of the day, a company will thrive if all of its employees are happy. In order to do this, it needs to have good leaders. Leaders who are willing to train, and work with those of lower stature to grow them into good leaders like them. Word Count: 537
