Written Assignment Unit 2...

Description

Introduction: Effective business communication is a process that involves two or more people sharing information that sends a clear message and the message is received as intended. Effective business communication can increase company success significantly when used at work. Because it makes work instructions, tasks, information, expectations, together with work process to be better understood ((What Is Effective Business Communication and Why Is It Important? 2019). Therefore, communication can be ineffective because of language usage trends such as cliches, jargons, slangs, sexist and racist language, euphemisms and doublespeak.

Cliché: This is a word or phrase that has been overused in communication (2011-2021, Clichés to Avoid). The word or phrase has been used so much in communication and has lost all its efficacy. These words or phrases are now a week and meaningless and contribute to no purpose to the message that is being conveyed in communication. The used of Cliches make the person using it to be lazy and uncreative hence kill the significance of communication. Example of Cliches word like a "nutshell" meaning in a very brief statement. I used "I'm giving it 110%" in a Business commitment that I give the business nothing less than 100%. Jargon: This a generic language used by authorities or people in a particular field of occupation to communicate. It is also known as corporate jargon and it includes buzzwords, vogue words, and euphemisms (Nordquist, 2013). Example Bang for the buck meaning to get the most for one’s money. I used the word Due diligence when I wanted to invest in Bitcoins. Slang: These are words that are peculiar or irregular in a given language and spoken to show inclusion in a certain social group (Slang Examples and Definition 2016). Slang is considered informal and common in speech and not in writing. When slang is used it means there is certain familiarity between those who use it together. An example of slang can be seen in social

media "LOL" meaning Laughing out loud. I used the slang bye, Felicia, to a business I do not like. Sexist and Racist Language: This is offensive language and using it can be a violation of company policies and can be considered by some government or society as antidiscrimination law. For example, calling a man "sissy" means referring to a man as feminine. I told my male friends that I did take our head of department who is a lady seriously in her presentation because of what she was wearing, this is a preoccupation with physical appearance. Euphemism: This is an indirect expression exchange for one considered to be too harsh when referring to something unpleasant and embarrassing. Euphemism is also known as "Lubricant" Example poor meaning economically disadvantaged, in need or needy. I used the Euphemism quit when I was leaving my formal workplace. Doublespeak: This is a language that is used with the intention to deceive and confuse people. The word use can be understood in more than one way. It can take the form of euphemism, ambiguity. It a language that pretends to communicate but doesn’t Example illadvised which is supposed to be a terrible idea I use the word a bit shaky, instead to say very poor quality.

conclusion From the above explanation, therefore, means that these six barriers contribute to misunderstanding and miscommunication intentional or unintentional. Communication must be clear, concise and ensure that the parties involved understand each other well. so making use of any of these barriers hinders the achievement of this goal and may have huge negative impacts.
