Written Assignment Unit 1 BUS 2202 E-Commerce University of the People Types of Business Net and example 1. Web Agora e.g. Ebay 2. Web Aggregator e.g Amazon (Kutz, 2016) Compare and contrast Ebay and Amazon One Major similarity between Ebay (Web Agora), and Amazon (Web Aggregator is that they are both eCommerce platform where consumers can purchase goods online. They provide secure platforms for conducting online transactions. An online marketplace (Agora) like Ebay provides its platform for buyers and sellers to meet (Jenim, 2020). Individual sellers keep their brand identity and control their pricing. The marketplace is the interpreter of supply and demand as it acts as a bridge between sellers and buyers. Although both Ebay and Amazon do not own the products, Amazon is an aggregator. It brings together different sellers to sell under the Amazon brand name. The sellers are not directly in control of the pricing and delivery of the products. Although platforms like Ebay and Amazon share many common aspects, they have some differences as well based on the way how they serve customers. Below is a highlight of differences in their mode of operation.

1. Brand Name: Products on Amazon are sold under the Amazon brand while sellers on eBay sell in their brand name. 2. Partnership Model: While sellers on Ebay handles their shipping and order fulfillment, Amazon as an aggregator provides a smooth partnership with the sellers whereby it handles shipping and order fulfillment. 3. High Quality: In the Agora model as used by Ebay, it will be difficult to maintain high-quality standard since each seller have control over the auction of their products and they will have to process orders on their own. Amazon on the other hand can maintain a high standard because it is in control of meeting customers' needs and delivering their goods.

4. Standard Price: As already stated, the agora model has multiple vendors selling different products, the price of the same product will vary from vendor to vendor. The customer can compare products from different sellers and can purchase the necessary things. But in the aggregator model, since all services are provided under a common name, the price is standardized.
