1. What is peer assessment, and why do we use it at the University of the People? Peer assessment is where students who are in the same class or grade assess each other following a script from their tutor in their classes for assignments or even tests. It is used at the UoPeople because it forms an important part of development, plan and academic abetment of all UoPeople courses 2. What are the benefits of peer assessment? Peer assessment enables the students to understand better their course work through the work of others and reflect on their own methods of study in order to improve their study skills. It enables the students to have a critical analysis mind as they have to compare the tutor given script with the work of their peers and judge if it is correct or not. It saves the time of the teacher in that the time that would have been used to assess the students will now be used to plan for the next classes. 3. What are the challenges of giving peer feedback in peer assessment? Some challenges of giving peer feedback are that some of the students will feel the need to please their friends and therefore give them undeserving marks or grade everyone equally in order to not annoy anyone in the classroom. Some students do not have enough confidence in themselves to grade others they therefore absconder the task. 4. What are the challenges of receiving peer feedback in peer assessment? Challenges of receiving feedback among peers include; the students have different abilities in the classroom therefore some with limited knowledge will not feel confident in the process. There may be some ill feelings in case either of the students consider themselves unfairly assessed. 5. What strategies will you use to peer assess written assignments? How will you assess discussion assignments? Some strategies for peer-written assessment include grading of assignments, guidelines to review each other's work, exam checklists. Assessing discussion assignment can be done by the students physically presenting the work before their peers then the peers are given a chance to randomly ask questions to the group members to check their level of understanding or with them compiling their work them give a pop-up quiz to the students to see if they understood the work they have done....
