1. After exploring the Opposing Viewpoints Database and reviewing your brainstorming activity, identify two issues that are related to your career or degree: a. Write a fully developed paragraph for issue one (5–8 sentences). I. Explain at least two clear arguable sides to the issue. II. Explain how the issue relates to your field or degree, or your potential field or degree. The first issue I would like to address is how employees mental and physical health is often neglected or ignored in the workforce. Especially since it had become more crucial than ever with the rise of the Coronavirus. I have seen many examples of where management has failed to take an employee’s well-being into considerations. Whether it’s the death of a relative, an illness that affects them being able to work, or any other number of personal problems that could cause a worker to miss a shift or not being in the physical or mental mindset to attend work. At Kohls my managers main goal is to increase the number of sales and solicitation of credit cards this causes them to lose sight of the environment of the store which has been growing more toxic since the Corona outbreak. This causes animosity and stress between the workers and management. There are two sides two this argument. Those in favor of the employees and their well-being and those in favor of the way management handles running their stores. b. Write a fully developed paragraph for issue two (5–8 sentences). I. As the rise in cases of coronavirus fails to cease retail workers are being dragged into the latest culture war: getting customers to wear masks and stay 6th feet apart from each other. As a retail worker I have noticed many cases where myself and coworkers have been neglected and abused by customers on a daily basis. With new CDC guidelines that stores must follow such as getting people to wear masks, keeping them from trying on clothes and, keeping 6 feet between them and other customers. Retail employees have become the enforcers of these rules and as a

result have been the ones to be yelled at or in some cases even physical assaulted. Retail workers have become the ones to take the brunt of people’s frustrations when it comes to them not experiencing their ideal shopping vision. There are two arguable sides for this issue. Those in favor of retail workers who are also doing their best to prevent the spread of the virus and, those who don’t want to wear masks and want their rights to be respected. While I can understand why some don’t like masks I think as citizens of the United States it is our responsibility to take control and do our part to prevent the spread while still treating others with respect and understand that they are doing their job and not trying to take away their rights. 2. After exploring the arguments related to your issues, take a moment to consider the bigger picture. Then, briefly reflect (in 1 to 2 paragraphs) on the importance of persuasion for the issue you are most likely to write about. Be specific in your assignment; this information will help guide you as you work on your project in the coming weeks. a. I will be pursuing the second issue on the cultural war that employees are involved in with the uprising of assaults in relation to CDC guidelines. I will be arguing in favor of the employees and persuade people to respect that they are only doing their jobs and help them understand that this is what is required to enter a public environment. It is important for me to use relevant stories and news articles to sway the audience and show them how this affects them and others they may know or not know. My audience is intended to be to customers and retail workers who could potentially learn from reading my paper. Reading my paper may help people see how this information could be beneficial and help them if they are ever involved in or witness a situation in which a retail employee is being attacked for enforcing governmental regulations....
